Notes: On Feb. 13 at Pomona, he won the A/SP class with 93.94 mph. The following week at Santa Ana, on Feb. 20, he won the sports car class with 94.33 mph. At Pomona on Mar. 6, he took a win in the A/SP class with 93.20 mph. On Mar. 13 at Pomona, he turned 93.55 mph to win the A/SP class. He was edged out of winning the A/SP class at Pomona on Mar. 20 by Seymour Meadows, who was driving a fiberglass Allied 304cubic inch Merc flathead. The next week, he towed north to Tulare, where he won the trophy for A/SP with 99.00 mph on Apr. 17. Back at Pomona on Apr. 24, he returned to his winning ways by winning A/SP with 100.55 mph. At Pomona on May 8, he took another trophy in A/SP with 100.00 mph. At the NHRA regional championships at Colton on May 15, he won the A/SP class with 101.81 mph. On May 29 at Paradise Mesa, he won A/MSP with a strip record of 101.30 mph. He took back-to-back wins at Pomona on June 12 (105 mph) and June 19 (101.69 mph). On July 10, he towed to San Diego and took a win at Paradise Mesa with 103.44 mph in A/SP. He was a regular fixture in the winner's circle at Pomona, taking a win on July 17 with 102.15 mph. He was at Pomona on July 31 to pick up another win with 102.27 mph. The next week at Pomona, on Aug. 7, he won again with 102.80 mph. The next week, he repeated at Pomona on Aug. 14 with 103.65 mph. At Santa Ana on Sep. 4, his Kurtis-Cad took the Sports Car class with 104.16 mph. On Sep. 11 at Santa Ana, he won the A/MSP class with 105.23 mph. Again at Santa Ana, on Oct. 23, he took A/MSP with 105.20 mph. At Pomona on Nov. 6, he beat his longtime rival, H. L. Hutchins, who ran a Cad-engined MG, winning with a time of 103.68 mph to take A/SP. He towed to Phoenix for the Arizona State Championships on Nov. 20, winning A/SP with 104.28 mph. Notes: After notching yet another Winternationals class win in his beautifully finished, but rather frumpy-faced '53 Cad-Kurtis, Parriott decided it was time for something new. A blown 427 Ford wedge in swoopy new Kurtis skin replaced the Fifties-vintage Caddy-powered sportster he had campaigned successfully since that first class win in the '58 NHRA Nationals. True to form, the sexy new "City Of Industry II" set a new class record during the meet (10.55/148.51), but lost in the class final to Ron Waggoner's blown Chevy-Healey. - RT

In Middle Eliminator competition the bright red Kurtis roadster knocked out Doug Cook's Swindler A Willys in the first round, but lost to Hugh Tucker's all-conquering silver AA/SR in the second. At Labor Day weekend's NHRA Nationals the perennial class-winner notched another win with a 10.62/132.93. Notes: Parris was at Miami-Hollywood for the fourth NHRA Division 2 race. In the first round, his 9.36/145.39 advanced when Jack Blosser's Challenger broke. He had a good race in round two that saw his 9.46 beat Max Hurley's 9.59. Carmen Rotonda fouled away a 9.39 against him in the semifinal, and Parris ran 9.41. In the final, he faced low qualifier, Reid Whisnant. Reid had been running 9.2's with ease and hit a meet's best of 9.19. So William took a gamble on the tree in the final and came up red. Still, he ran a respectable 9.29/146.34 in a runner-up effort to Whisnant's 9.26/147. William was the third alternate at Gainesville at 9.394/144.00. He qualified #21 at NHRA ENglishtowntown at 9.376/145.90. He ran his best NHRA national event times in a first-round loss to Melvin Yow, 9.22/151 to 9.350/146.57. Willam was the sixth alternate at Indy at 9.456/144.92. He qualified #8 in the Eastern Conference (#9 overall) at the Amarillo World FInals (no qualifying time). He lost in round one, to Lynn Harrison, 9.67/139 to 9.78/140.62. That was William's last NHRA national event of the year.

Notes: At Bristol, for the IHRA Springnationals, Parris qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with an 8.37. That wasn't too bad, considering that 32 cars were attempting to qualify. In the opening round of eliminations, his 8.24 beat Harold Denton. But in round two, his 8.30 lost to Pat Musi's 8.28. He was back at Bristol in the first week of August for the IHRA Summernationals. His 8.31 qualified #6 in the sixteen-car field, and he lasted until round two before losing to eventual winner Rickie Smith. The slanted front end was legal at the time.
