Notes: Randy Payne's 10.54/131.38 failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals. On April 5 he qualified #8 in a sixteen-car field at Phenix for an NHRA Division 2 points race. A first Round 10.77 beat Sam Carroll and in the second round a 10.66 beat Hubert Platt. In the semifinal, Harold Denton's 10.64 stopped him. At another NHRA Division 2 points race at Blaney on May 23, Randy advanced past the first-round when Max Hurley fouled. In the second round, Bo Laws fouled against him advancing him to the semifinal where his Maverick broke advancing James Lake into the final.
