Notes: Larry was at Edgewater on May 21 for the NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 9.08. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round meeting with the low qualifier, Wally Booth. As expected, Booth's 8.67/155 easily beat Peternel's 9.06/151.75. On June 4th, he was at Indianapolis for the next NhRA Division 3 race. His 9.03 qualified #7, and his opening round 9.12/150.25 lost to Booth's AMC at 8.70/156. The next NHRA Division 3 race was held at Martin, Michigan, on June 24. Larry's 9.01 qualified #6, and wouldn't you know it, his first-round 9.08 lost to Booth's 8.73/154. He had to be getting sick of seeing the little Hornet! On July 9th, he finally got some different competition at Edgewater for the NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #5, and this time, he faced low qualifier Joe Satmary in round one. But the Duster had some problems and slowed to 15.81 in their race, and Satmary advanced with an 8.76/154. He was back at Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships on August 13. A 9.30 qualified #15, and his opening round 9.37/143.76 lost to Dave Avery's 8.98/154. The final NHRA Division 3 race was run the following week (Aug 20). Peternel's first-round 9.15/149.25 lost to Satmary's 8.76/154.

Notes: Larry qualified #15 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a career-best 8.583/156.52. He faced "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the first round, and the Duster ended up getting into its own oil and crashing into the guardrail. The car's front end was ripped off, but it appeared to be repairable. Larry was OK. That was his only NHRA national event appearance of the year.

Notes: Midwest Pro Stock Association and NHRA racer. Peternel was at Atlanta Dragway in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He failed to qualify with a 7.65/182.37 best. Larry attempted to qualify at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals, but he was the tenth alternate with a 7.48/185.75 best. Shortly after that, he went to Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where his 7.422/187.42 was the twenty-ninth alternate. Larry dropped another tenth at NHRA Ennis to run his best times of the year at 7.326/188.91.
