Notes: Won A/XS at the 67 Winternationals. Also, set the A/XS record at 8.61/171.10 at Phenix City, Alabama, on 4/01/67. Hubert started his season at Houston on January 15 for a best-of-three-match race against Don Gay's "Infinity" GTO. Late in '66, Platt set the track record at 8.48, so he hoped to improve on it. The Mustang's brakes failed in the first race, and he could not stage the car. Gay made an easy solo for the win. After fixing the brakes, the two came out for their second race, and Platt was late off the line. Although he reset the track record with an 8.45, he lost to the Pontiac's 8.55. Platt ran really well at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He ran in A/XS, and he ran a best of 8.49/171.42. He was to race Dick Loehr's similar Mustang for class honors, but Loehr's car broke. Hubert was at Lakeland on March 5 for a best two out of three match race against Eddie Schartman. Platt won the first race with a 9.59/159.01 to Ed's 9.72/151, but Schartman came back to win the next two races and the match. Platt had fouled in both remaining races running a best of 8.82/162.74. Another match race was run at Detroit on March 12 against Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Charger. Hubert won this match two straight with a best of 9.12/168. At the end of April (30), he ran Lew Arrington's "Brutus" at Aquasco and beat him two straight with runs of 8.39/166.97 and 8.74/161.57. Holman-Moody chassis?

Notes: Platt was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His 9.90/142.41 qualified #21 in the 32-car show. The race was rain-delayed, and Hubert did not return for the rain date. Platt qualified eighth at the Warner Robins Grand Opener, but he lost in the first round, when he had handling problems. Hubert ran 9.292/145.16 at NHRA Indianapolis. Hubert ran three straight 9.10s at the Ontario World Finals. He qualified #5 (at 149.00) with the first one, won round one at 148.76 with the second one over Lee Hunter, but lost to Bob Glidden in round two with the third 9.10. Platt ended his season at the Snowbird National Open held on December 2. He qualified #2 for the eight-car show with a 9.07, just behind Reid Whisnant's 9.06. A 9.16 in the opening round beat Harold Clark, and in the semifinal, he beat Max Smith's Gremlin with a 9.10. He faced Whisnant in the final, and the Pinto slowed to a 9.42/144.69 that lost to Reid's 9.07/151. Where was the 9.06/151 run? It was not at a national event.

Notes: It seems like there were tons of Pro Stock Pinto's in '73-'74, but in '75, a lot of teams took advantage of the NHRA rules that allowed longer wheelbase cars lighter weight breaks. Those that didn't run the long-wheelbase cars mainly were now running the Mustang II. But while many new Pintos were being built, there were still a lot of the old ones running in '75. Hubert Platt's Pinto was dated but was still able to compete at smaller events. He attempted to qualify at the NHRA Gatornationals but failed to make the field. He went to Southeastern Dragway in April for an eight-car show. The track was 900 feet long. Platt ran Low ET of the first-round with his 7.23, beating Calvin Nabors, who fouled. Notes: Bill Thomas fastback was 1 of 3 built. On June 4, Huston faced Phil Bonner at Atco for a best of five match race. Platt lost the match, but he ran well. In the first race, his 9.64/144 lost to Phil's 9.28/148. He won the second race with a 9.60/142, but Bonner came back to win the next two races and the match. Platt's best time was a 9.49/144 in the last race. Platt made a lot of Chevy fans happy on August 28 when he beat Ed Skelton's newly Cammer-powered Mustang three straight at Paradise Drag Strip. It was a 1,000-foot track, and Huston won with times of 7.62, 7.85, and 7.59. In a best-of-three-match race, Huston lost to his brother Hubert at Aquasco on September 11. Hubert won two straight over his brother's Nova. In the first round, the Mustang's 8.68/162 beat Huston's early shut-off 9.58/144.00. The Chevy broke a crankshaft in the second race, and Hubert won the match with an 8.63/164.

Notes: The '68 season had to be the best for Chevy-powered FCs. Many of them were being built, often setting Low ET or Top Speed at many events. The Chevy engine was doing this at a fraction of the cost compared to running a Chrysler or a Ford. The engine lived, and it was surprising that it could not compete in TF. But many racers sure took note that building a Chevy was a far cheaper and easier way to enter fuel Funny Car racing. The party ended early in the '69 season as after the Winter meets, the Chevys were hard-pressed just to qualify at most big events, on a local level that still fared well until '70. Huston Platt was always a Chevy supporter even when they were not competitive. He never gave up, and in '68, he reaped the rewards as his Camaro ran really well. Platt took a big win over a sixteen-car field on February 18 at the second annual East Coast Funny Car Championships at Orlando, Florida. He ran an easy first-round 9.48/150 over Tom Smith's unblown 'Cuda. In the second round, an 8.29/177.86 beat Pete Gates'8.91/159. In the semifinal, an 8.27/175.51 beat Frank Federici. He set both Low ET and Top Speed in the final with an 8.25/179.28, beating Kelly Chadwick's 8.60/163. Early in April, he was at Southeastern Dragway for a four-car show. In his first race, he defeated Arnie Beswick's GTO. He lost to "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the second race, and in the third race, both he and Dick Bourgeois crossed the centerline and almost collided. On September 8, he was at Bristol for the All-American Funny Car Championships. His 8.14/182 won when Della Woods shut down early in the opening round. In the second round, his 8.25/183.28 fell to Don Biggers' 8.01/189.

Notes: AKA Super Swinger. Huston drove this car for the first time at Charlotte on November 9. It was the first time he was back in a race car since the spring when he had his accident at Yellow River, where 12 race fans were killed and another 50 were injured. He faced off against Ronnie Runyan in a best-of-three match race at the 1/8 mile Charlotte track. In the first race, his 5.98/163.98 was beaten by Runyan's 5.22/160. He came back to win the second race with a 4.97/173, but in the final, a blown transmission ended his chances for the match race win. All was not lost, however, when Ron fouled on his last pass. Thus, it was deemed a draw.

Huston qualified #10 at 7.66 and ran 7.62 in round one, to take out a centerline crossing John Dekker. Gene Snow defeated Huston in round two, 7.21/205 to 7.61/180.00. We will place those times here based on the NHRA note about Smith's burned Dart. Please confirm if you know this story. This was the car involved in the infamous Yellow River accident.
