Notes: John's Rodeck-powered car surprised a lot of people with its performance in '87. The first NHRA National event he attended this season was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. Unfortunately, he failed to qualify. In May, he was at the NHRA Division 2 race at DeSoto Memorial, where he ran 6.49/214.28 to qualify #4 in the eight-car field. A slightly better 6.48/215.82 beat Terry Mullins in the first round, and a quick-leaving 6.45/206.42 in the semifinal beat Carol Burkett's 6.43/213. In the final, he was up against Pat Austin, and Pat's best had only been 6.39, so they weren't too far off. But the car broke, giving Austin a solo for the win.
