Notes: Raymer was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His 6.53/203.16 qualified second to Gary Southern's 6.47/212. He reached the final before losing to Jerry Darien. He then went to Bakersfield, where he qualified #9 in the 32-car field with a 6.88/193.54. In the opening round, his 6.58/205 beat Bobby Knotts. In round two, he slowed to an off-pace 7.24/175.78 that lost to Don Clar's 6.74/202. He then went to Green Valley Raceway in the first week of April for the NHRA Western Regional race. Only eight cars showed, so qualifying wasn't an issue. He ran 7.41 for the #7 spot on the grid. In the first round, he set Low ET with his 6.58/208.33, beating Paul Albers' 6.97/198. In the semi-final, Willard Buff's 6.68/207 fell to Raymer's 6.62/206.89. He faced Eddie Baumann in the final, and Brian's 6.59/205.94 got the victory over Eddie's 6.83/201. In the middle of May, he was at Amarillo for the NHRA Division 4 race. His 6.87 qualified #1, and he went on to win over the eight-car field. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 6.49/212.76. Another 6.49 at 209.30 advanced when John Shoemaker fouled, but still another 6.49 at 211.26 lost to Dennis Lucas' 6.47/212 in the semifinals. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, his 6.42/207.27 qualified #3 in the sixteen-car show. He slowed to an off-pace 6.62/172.87 in the first round, which he lost to Alan Deboer's 6.47/211. | At the NHRA Quaker State Northstar Nationals in Brainerd, Raymer qualified #2 for the 8-car field with a 6.443/213.27. He defeated #6 qualifier Dennis Forcelle in round 1 with Low ET 6.368/216.86 to Forcelle's losing 6.454/212.76. He defeated #8 qualifier Don Woosley in the semis 6.419/217.39 to Woosley's losing 6.455/215.82 & #3 qualifier Bill Walsh in the Final with a 6.396/218.44 setting Top Speed of the meet to Walsh's losing 6.450/216.34. Notes: Won inaugural All Stars race at Ennis 4/87. Raymer was not the quickest car at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Winston All-Star race, but he ran well enough to win. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 6.28/217.70. Brian beat Bruce McDowell in the first round, with a 6.27 and a semifinal 6.26/216.39, which advanced when Denny Lucas fouled. He went up against Bill Walsh in the final, and his 6.31/216.91 scored the victory over Walsh's 6.43/186. On April 26, he was at Pueblo Motorsports Park for the NHRA Division 5 Opener. His 6.83/201.74 (Top Speed) qualified #2 behind Lucas' 6.77/201. A 6.84/201.47 in the first round, beat John McLaughlin, but a semifinal 6.88/199.24 lost to Tim Baxter's 6.76/197.
