Notes: Dwight lost to Steve Carbone in the first round, on June 4 at an eight-car show at Lions. On June 11, he qualified #1 with a 7.59 at an eight-car show at Irwindale. He won his first-round race when Ray Ayres fouled away a 7.87/199. Salisbury advanced with a 7.99/199.54. In the semifinals, he had problems and slowed to a 9.91 that lost to Tommy Allen's 7.87. Dwight just made the field at the HRM Championships at Riverside when he ran a 7.89/196.50 that hung on to the 3second spot. He lost to Hank Clark in the first round. He was at Lions on July 9 for an eight-car show. He failed to qualify with a best of 7.81, but when two cars dropped out with problems he got into the show. Dwight improved to a 7.78/196.92 in the first round, but it wasn't enough as he lost to James Warren's 7.61/203. The following day (July 10), he was at Santa Maria for an eight-car show there. He advanced past Tom McEwen who had throttle linkage problems in the first round, but in the semifinals, he lost to eventual winner Dave Beebe. Back at Irwindale on August 12, he shut off to a 9.28/149.50 loss in the first round, against Herb Ries. Salisbury got himself a big win at another eight-car show at Irwindale on August 20. He qualified #7 with a 7.93 and in the first round, beat Tom Toler's 7.88/207 with a holeshot 7.96/190.26. In the semifinals, he got another holeshot win with a 7.95/200 beating Warren's much better 7.76/211. In the final, all that was needed for the victory was an 8.26/161.87 as Leroy Goldstein had problems. On September 3, he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show. In the first round, a 7.69/203.16 beat Ken Safford's 7.89/205 in Ted Gotelli's car. In the semifinal, an 8.00/200.44 beat John Harbert's 8.07/186. In the final, he lost to Bob Brooks driving the Wilton and Doss Chevy powered car. At the eighth annual Fremont Fallnationals on September 25, Dwight ran well, but a first-round 7.46/193.12 lost to Jim Davis' 7.41/200. Lions hosted a UDRA race on October 8 and Dwight was there. He ran an off pace 8.13/198.66 in the first round, that lost to McEwen's 7.57/206. He fouled in the first round, against Tommy Allen at Irwindale's Grand Prix on October 22, and the following day he was at Carlsbad, where to went into a wheelstand and shut off in the first round, against Kelly Brown.

Notes: Dwight was runner-up to James Warren at the Pomona Winters and Bakersfield 1968. He qualified #9 at Pomona at 7.089/215.30. He beat John Wiebe in round one, 7.055/210.28 to 7.27/188. Don Cook fouled against him in round two, and Dwight coasted to a 9.07/101.58 win. He beat Don Prudhomme on a solid holeshot in round three, 7.19/211.76 to 7.14/186.32. Dwight ran 7.33/197.80 to beat Ron Rolstad's shut-off in the semis. The final was good, but Warren came out on top, 7.26/222 to 7.26/205.00. At the Bakersfield March Meet, his 6.993 qualified #7. He ran well, winning the first two rounds without problems. In the third round, his 7.08/222 defeated Steve Carbone. His run ended in the semifinal, where his late 7.10/221.12 lost to eventual winner Ron Rivero's 7.17. Near the end of April, he was at OCIR for a sixteen-car show. There was no qualifying as the first-round pairings were pulled from a hat. Dwight's 7.52/214.78 in the opening round lost to Dave Hage. The following week (May 4), he was at Irwindale for another sixteen car show. In round one, his 7.41 beat Phil Butler's 7.59. In round two, he improved to 7.27/220.58 to take out Bob Hightowner's extremely late 7.10/221. He fouled away a 7.59 in the semifinal against eventual winner Dave Beebe. Soon after that (May 18), he was at Las Vegas International for an eight-car show. He ran 7.30/182.54 in qualifying, but he lost to Beebe in the opening round. On June 9, twenty-six cars attempted to qualify at Tulsa for the sixteen-car Texas Pro Fuel Race. Dwight qualified #5 with a 7.41/212.26. In the opening round, he improved to 7.24/211 to defeat John Mundy's 7.27/216. In round two, Kenny Bernstein's 7.56/198 fell to his 7.27/202. Watus Simpson burned a piston against him in the semifinal, and Salisbury advanced. He faced John Wiebe in the final, and the race was worth the cost of admission. The two flashed down the track, with John winning with a 7.24 over Dwight's 7.26. Dwight drove Jim Busby's Beach Boys car at Dallas and Indy. He did not race at the World Finals.
