Notes: Santos was at Bakersfield for the Budweiser Warmup race to kick off the '92 season. He ran his first-ever "five," a 5.99/227.67. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, his 6.07/222.11 qualified #7. In the opening round, a 6.12/221.34 beat Stephan Fedele's 6.17/202. In round two, Chess Bushey fouled against him, and Santos advanced with a 6.06/221.89. In the semifinal, his 6.10/221.34 fell to Dennis Allen's 6.03/225. On April 12, he was at Firebird Raceway for the NHRA Division 6 opener. It was an eight-car field, and his 6.25/217.18 qualified second to Jay Payne's 6.16/221. In the first round, Rick's 6.31/213.21 defeated Tiffani Hyland's 6.34/214, but in the semifinal, he fouled away a 6.26/213.62 against Mike Cofini, who advanced with a 6.41/213. Shortly after that (April 26), he was at Bakersfield for the NHRA Division 7 opener. This was a sixteen-car field, and his 6.04/221.51 qualified #5. He beat Tom Pischinger in the first round before his 6.11/220.26 in round two lost to Bobby Taylor's 6.07/223. The second Division 7 race was held at Sears Point on May 17. Twenty-six cars showed up attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car field. Rick's 6.01/221.38 qualified second behind Russ Conroy's 6.01/225. He then beat Darryl Hitchman in the first round and Fedele in round two with a 6.03/220.51. A 6.08/217.84 stopped Steve Faria's 6.17/211 in the semifinal. Notes: Rick won the NHRA Autolite Nationals at Sonoma on August 1. He had set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 5.88 at 229.06. He then went on to beat Tom Pischinger with a 5.94/225.79, Russ Conroy in round two with a 5.96/225.50, and a semifinal 5.95/226.64 beat Bobby Taylor. Notes: Santos started his season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His 5.94/229.76 qualified #10. In round one, his 5.92/229.53 beat Darryl Hitchman's 5.91/232. He slowed to 6.16/224.88 in round two, but it was still enough to win as Jim Rizzoli had transmission problems. His semifinal opponent, Tim Capaldi, also had problems as the car broke a rear end, and Rick advanced with a 6.07/225.67. In the final, he faced John Shoemaker, and Santos' 6.27/223.38 finished runner-up to John's 6.15/225. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Santos ran 8.83/226.81 to qualify second behind Brooks Brown's 5.77/233. Michael Gorr fouled against him in the opening round, and his 5.90/231.18 advanced. Another 5.90 at 229.76 beat Mark Taliaferro's 6.11/228 in round two but an off-pace 8.62/108.66 fell to the eventual winner Jay Payne's 5.91/235 in the semifinals. Santos did not race at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals or Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He won the NHRA Division 6 opener held at Firebird Raceway in April. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 for the eight-car field with a 5.95/225.62. A solo 5.97/224.10 advanced over a broken Bob Haffner in round one, and another 5.97 at 225.96 beat Shoemaker's 6.13/224 in the semifinal. In the final, he ran 5.99/224.10 for the win over Payne's 6.03/229. It was an emotional victory at Rick's brother Steve, who had died of heart failure just days before this race. Another win came on May 15 at the NHRA Division 7 race at Bakersfield. Once again, he qualified #1, this time with a 5.88/228.65. Santos set Low ET in the opening round with a 5.84/214.74 that dropped Steve Faria's 6.07/205. In the semifinal, he ran another 5.84 at 231.06 to beat Russ Conroy's 5.96/231. He faced Bobby Taylor in the final, and a 5.89/230.06 easily beat Bobby's 6.01/232. In early August, he scored a big win at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. There he qualified #3 with a 5.85/229.00. In round one, Jeremy Torstveit's 5.94/225 fell to his 5.85/228.42. A 5.87/226.87 stopped Taylor's 5.94/231 in round two, and a 5.84/226.98 took out Bill Barney's 5.93/234 in the semifinal. In the final, he faced low qualifier Shaun Hyland, and Rick caught a good light, and his 5.93/227.56 held on to win over Hyland's slightly better 5.91/229. He skipped over going to Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals, but he was at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. A 5.83/228.77 qualified #2. Rick set Low ET of the meet in the first round, where his 5.80/230.53 beat Jay Meyer's 5.94/232. The little Chevy stayed strong in round two, where he ran 5.82/229.12 to put Hyland's 5.86/233 on the trailer. Notes: Dominic's car was a former Chris Karamesines top fuel car. Santucci ran an early 392 Hemi that used a 1/2 stroker crank and was bored .030 over to obtain 454 cubic inches. The engine was making 986 horsepower. The total car weight was only 1,340 lbs. The car ran low eights with a best speed of 186.80 early in the year.

He beat Jerry Caminito's 6.96 in the first round, with a 6.77/177.51. He made an easy solo in the semifinals to set up a final-round showing with Billy Meyer. Notes: Santucci was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. He qualified for the sixteen-car field, but in the first round, he smoked the tires and lost to Kenny Bernstein. He raced at the Englishtown Spring Funny Car Bonanza. The ND article only said, "I hope D.A. Santucci's Black Magic Funny Car racer gets over its cold." It's hard to tell what that was about. In May, he was at Atco for its May Madness race. This was his first trip to Atco in twelve years. Four FCs were running, and in his first race, he ran 7.23/155.97 to beat an out-of-shape Bobby Lagana. In the second race, he faced Bruce Larson, driving his new Corvette. The two had a great race that saw Larson's 6.37/226 defeat Santucci's 6.38/233.76. At the 1985 IHRA SummerNats, Edgewater Raceway Park, Cincy, OH, he qualified 10th at 6.01/226 but lost in the first round to John Lombardo. DA qualified #11 at 5.853/246.98 at the Keystone Nationals. In round one, he upset Ed McCulloch, 6.027/195.73 to a 9.94, but lost round two to 6.03/209 to 6.377/215.31. That was DA and Barb's only NHRA national event in 1985.

Notes: Santucci was at Englishtown in mid-April for its Spring FC Bonanza race. Only six cars ran, and in the first round, his 6.29/187.50 beat Pat Walsh. He reached the final, where his 5.96/241.93 got the victory over Paul Smith, who was driving Chuck Etchells' car. Dom switched to this T-Bird in early 1986, and numbers improved almost immediately. He qualified #14 at Columbus at 5.950/244.36 and surprised Mike Dunn with a holeshot win in round one, 5.927/246.50 to 5.898/252.66. In round two, the good times continued, as Mark Oswald shut off to a 12-second pass as Santucci advanced with a great 5.802/253.44. Jim Head ended Dom's day in the semis, but he did not go down without a fight. The numbers were 5.84/246 to Santucci's 5.999/247.79. He qualified on the "bump" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 5.866/250.62. In the opening round of competition, his 5.991/245.90 lost to Don Prudhomme's 5.72/250. Notes: Dominic qualified #7 at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.45/263.64. In the opening round, his 5.48/258.76 lost to Scott Kalitta's 5.46/264. Shortly after that (July 1), he was at New York International for the IHRA Empire Nationals. Thirteen FCs showed up and attempted to qualify for the eight-car field. Santucci's 5.91/254.50 qualified on the "bump." In the first round, his opponent, low qualifier Jerry Caminito broke, and Dominic's tire-shaking 5.99/253.74 advanced. Richard Hartman smoked the tires against him in the semi-final, and Santucci ran 5.68/262.26 to win. He faced Chuck Etchells in the final, and Santucci set both Low ET and Top Speed to win at 5.65/263.79. The speed was also a new track record. The following week, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. A 5.44/272.64 qualified #10. He lost to eventual winner Etchells in the first round. He was at Atco Raceway in August for the IHRA Eastern Nationals. In the first round, he ran Carl Ruth, who was debuting his new '56 Ford. Dominic's 5.47/270.04 beat Ruth's 6.05. He broke against Etchells in the semi-final. Also in August, Dominic won the Polaroid US All-Pro Funny Car Championships at Englishtown, defeating Richard Hartman in the final. He also ran well at Maple Grove in September for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, where he qualified #9 at 5.36/271.73. But once again, Etchells stopped him in round one. A week later (September 23), he was at Darlington for the IHRA U.S. Open Championships. He qualified second, and in round one, his 5.87/217.77 took out Bobby Lagana. He lost to Freddie Neely in the semi-final. Dom also ran 280 at Epping on September 9 and 273.88. He won the IHRA Empire Nationals at Empire International Raceway in 1990.
