At Bakersfield on Apr. 7, he won the A Open Gas class and gas top eliminator win with 128.09 mph. On May 26, he took top eliminator honors and a class victory at the Douglas-Tahoe Airport half-mile races at Minden, Nevada. Notes: Paul was at El Paso in mid-May for the NHRA Division 4 race. Only five cars showed, and his 7.95/165.74 qualified #3. He got to solo in the first round when Tom Dumbell broke, and he ran 7.83/157.61 to advance. In the semi-final, his car broke against eventual winner Frank Bradley. Was Savadin's dragster known as the Valvoline Charger or the West Coast Charger in 1976?
