Notes: Schnepf first put his unique '57 Lincoln Turnpike Cruiser engine with twin McCulloch superchargers in a B/G car in 1957. He towed it to Colton, where he set a track record on Sep. 28, 1957. Upon returning to Arizona, he built what would turn out to be a very competitive A Roadster using a '34 Ford. His first outing was at Casa Grande Drag Strip, where he turned 117.95 mph. He then towed it to Lions, where he set a world record of 124.82 mph on Feb. 22. Later newspapers reported that he also turned 133 mph at that 2-day event, but contemporary reports didn't confirm that. He then became very involved in building and managing the new Chandler Associated Drag Strip. At the opening event, he ran his blown Lincoln motor in a Ranchero in A/G, turning 14.53 at 101.91 mph. He ran his '34 roadster at Chandler for the first time on July 26. He towed the roadster to Oklahoma City for the NHRA Nationals and turned 122.95 mph but failed to win his class. Back at Chandler on Oct. 12, he turned 11.32 at 129 mph. Two weeks later, at Chandler, he took an A/R class win with 10.71 at 130.24 mph, the speed good enough for a track record. He removed the two McCulloch blowers in early November and put on a 671 GMC blower. With that single-blower setup, he turned 11.06 at 133 mph for a new track record at Chandler on Nov. 29. Notes: He managed the Chandler Associated Drag Strip in 1958, but was only an adviser in 1959. He went to the first U.S. Fuel and Gas Championships at Bakersfield, but suffered engine problems. On Mar. 21 at Chandler he set a new track record for A/R with 133.92 mph. He towed his roadster to Santa Ana for the Gold Cup races on Apr. 19. He set a new track record for A/R with 11.00 at 138.46 mph. He became the first racer to top 140 mph in the A/R class at Las Vegas. At Chandler on May 24, he took an A/R class win with 10.94 at 134.32 mph. On Oct. 3 at the Phoenix Drag Strip, he turned 136.98 in the A/Altered Roadster class, a new strip record. Newspapers reported he held the world's record in that class of 145 mph. On Nov. 15 at Davis-Monthan airfield, he set a new strip record with 9.37 at 135.90 mph. Notes: Joanne's husband, Jack, was the manager of the new Chandler Associated Drag Strip. He wanted his wife to drive his '34 Ford A/R at Chandler in an attempt to become the fastest women drag racer in the country. The roadster was a record-holding car sporting twin McCulloch superchargers on a '57 Lincoln engine. On Sep. 28, she turned 12.77 at 125.44 mph, a speed that the track boasted made her the fastest woman drag racer at the time, which may, in fact, be true. It was her only time racing the roadster.
