Notes: Jimmy competed at the Bakersfield March Meet where he qualified #5 in the eight-car field. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier, Gary Southern. Scott was up for the race, running 6.85 (Low ET) at 203.61 to beat Southern's 6.89/196. A 7.07/203 in the semifinals stopped Hans Kuesel and advanced him into the final against Lou Gasparelli. Scott then dumped Lou with a 6.96/201.79 for the victory. He was runner-up at the NHRA Division race at Fremont on April 12. It was another eight-car field and his 6.78/206.42 qualified #7. He beat Brad Anderson's 6.85/209 in the first round, with a 6.75/208.81. In the semifinals, his quick-leaving 6.71/209.30 beat Southern's quicker 6.66/207. He met Jack Holsey in the final and Scott fell off to 7.13/164.83 to finish second best to Jack's 6.64/209.

Notes: This was a jaw dropping run, one of those A/Fuel runs that occur every few years when the combo is just right at the right time. | Jimmy showed up at Famoso for the NHRA Division 6 race on May 5 with Gene Adams turning the wrenches. During qualifying, he made passes of 6.69/209 and 6.63/212 before clutch wiz Tony Miglizzi made a clutch adjustment. Scott then went out and ran 6.327/216.34 for the pole in the sixteen-car field. The times held for both Low ET and Top Speed of the meet as it was almost three tenths and ten miles per hour faster than any other A/FD had ever run. Unfortunately, the car broke in the first round, of competition.
