Notes: The team converted from their Monza to this new Camaro at NHRA Indy. They qualified #12 at 8.599/157.61 but fell off to a 9.00/124.89 loss to Don Coonce in round one. Harry ran 8.489/159.29 at Fremont to qualify #11 at the Golden Gate Nats. He ran 8.520/158.73 in a loss to Frank Iaconio's 8.37/163 in round one. Harry ran his best ET of the year at the Orange County World Finals at 8.465/159.01 for the #9 spot. He lost to Lee Shepherd in round one, 8.41/160 to 8.631/157.34.

Notes: Scribner's Monza was awarded the best appearing car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Harry qualified #15 with an 8.61/155.44. He then beat Don Nicholson's out-of-shape Mustang in the first round and then beat Larry Johnson before losing to Bob Glidden in the semifinal. At the Bakersfield March Meet, a six-car Pro Stock show was run. Scribner qualified #3 with an 8.65/155.70. He beat Fred Hunter's Camaro in the first round with a 9.07/144, but he shut off in the semifinal to a 13.53 loss to Mark Yuill's 8.63/157. On May 9, Harry was at OCIR for the NHRA Western Regional. He qualified the little Monza #4 in the eight-car show with an 8.70/154.63. He soloed with an 8.76/154.10 in the first round when Dale Falk shut off on the line. In the semifinals, he set Low ET with an 8.59/157.89 over Gordie Rivera's 8.71/157. Unfortunately, he slowed to an 8.91/133.92, losing to Mark Yuill's 8.60/159 in the final.

Notes: Harry qualified #16 at the first 500-inch Pro Stock race at the 1982 NHRA Winternationals with an 8.052/169.49. He lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round. He won the NHRA Division 6 race at OCIR on March 28, where a final round 8.09/168.85 beat a fouling Jerry Eckman. The team ran 7.964/171.75 at the May NHRA Division 6 event in Fremont. The team was struggling to qualify at NHRA national events, but they kept trying. They came close to making the eight-car show at the Mile High Nationals, where Harry's best of 8.41/164.83 in the thin air was second alternate. He qualified on the "bump spot" of the next NHRA event, the Northstar Nationals at Brainerd. An 8.05/173.07 got the #16 spot. Scribner lost to Joe Lepone Jr. in the first round. A 7.91/174.41 got the "bump" at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals. He ran 7.95/174.4 in the first round but lost to Ronnie Manchester. At the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals, a best of 7.87/173.74 failed to make the eight-car show. The season-ending NHRA World Finals at Pomona saw Harry run 7.87/174.75, but the time was only good for first alternate. Harry finished #19 in the season-long NHRA points chase.

Notes: The brothers started the year in a Camaro at Pomona, qualifying in the 16th spot with an 8.095/169.81. Harry lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round, 7.92/176 to 10.365/92.68. Scribner was at the Las Vega International Speedrome for the High Roller National Open in April. His 8.10 qualified #3 in the eight-car field. In the opening round, his 8.32/166.35 beat James Basko's 8.60/159 but an 8.09/170.77 in the semifinal lost to Brad Yuill's 8.02/169. At the Mile High Nationals, Harry was the second alternate at 8.434/164.83. In August, he was at the NHRA Northstar Nationals at Brainerd. His 8.059/173.07 qualified on the "bump." In the opening round of eliminations, he lost to Joe Lepone, 7.95/173 to 8.148/168.22. He continued to qualify on the "bump" at the NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indy, where his 7.910/174.41 got him the spot. In the opening round, his 7.953/174.41 fell to Ronnie Manchester's 7.87/174. He finished off the season by failing to qualify for the last two NHRA events. Notes: The Schribner brothers had raced a Camaro in '83 that they sold to Rickie Smith. The brothers also purchased some of Smith's engines for their new Rells-built Cougar. Scribner went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he failed to qualify with a best of 8.07/144.56. He also failed to make the cut at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 7.957. The team did qualify #14 at Denver with an 8.339/165.44. Unfortunately, they did not run in the first round and were replaced by alternate Doug Messner. Harry ran 7.892/175.43 but was the 12th alternate at Indy. Finally, the brothers ran at the World Finals at Pomona, but their 7.911/174.75 did not qualify.

Notes: Tom, Dick, and Harry Scribner had an unusual entry in competition. When they showed up at an event, they were sure to have the only Cougar running in Pro Stock. On January 19, the team was at Firebird for the Super Bowl of Drag Racing event. There were only four Pro Stock cars there, but Scribner ran the best time, a 7.87/174.75. The '86 NHRA season started at Pomona for the Winternationals. Harry ran a best of 7.811/178.21 in qualifying, but failed to make the show. The team also failed to qualify at the NHRA Gatornationals and the NHRA Southern Nationals where a 7.732/178.92 best was good for the eighth alternate. Those ended up being the team’s best times for the season. They were sixth alternate with a 7.78/178.11 best at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. They followed the tour to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals where once again they failed to qualify. This time, Harry was the twelfth alternate with a 7.83/177.40 best. They were learning fast why Bob Glidden was the only competitive Ford in NHRA Pro Stock. The going was tough. At the NHRA Grandnationals, a 7.79/178.14 best left them as the fourth alternate for the show and at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, a 7.74/177.65 failed to qualify as well. The team traveled to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, but once again failed to make the show with an 8.15/169.17 best in the thin air. Shortly after this, the team went to Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships. It was their first IHRA sanctioned event and their 500 cubic inch engine was up against some 700 cubic inch "Mountain Motors.” Still, Harry ran 7.83/176.12 to qualify #13. An opening round 7.84/176.47 lost to eventual winner Rickie Smith's 7.42/183. At Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals, Harry's 7.79/176.81 failed to qualify. The next event on the NHRA trail was the NHRA US Nationals at Indy. It took a 7.60 to make the sixteen-car field and their best of 7.73/178.21 was only good for the sixteenth alternate position. The Cougar was a crowd pleaser, but it needed a few more ponies to get into these shows. These were hard fields to qualify at and despite not qualifying, they were still running well. At Maple Grove in September for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, a 7.73/177.97 best failed to qualify (tenth alternate). Harry was twelfth alternate at the NHRA Chief Nationals at the Texas Motorplex with a 7.78/177.40 best. The team didn't give up, running a 7.79/173.98 for the eighth alternate at Phoenix for the NHRA Fallnationals and a 7.85/176.88 that failed to qualify at the NHRA World Finals at Pomona. You have to give them credit; in a Pro Stock world of Camaros and Firebirds at the time, they choose to be different and ran the untried Cougar body style. Not sure how much the rear window configuration did for aerodynamics. All in all, it was a refreshing change, but I'm not sure the boys would agree, as they were probably sick of not making the fields. They still finished 24th in the season long NHRA points chase as points are awarded even for attempting to qualify at national events. Did the team run 180 mph somewhere this year? (They did not at an NHRA national event).

Notes: Harry was the fourteenth alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals at 7.53/184.38. He also failed to qualify at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he was the fifteenth alternate at 7.47/186.41. He was at the Texas Motorplex for the IHRA Texas Nationals in mid-April. His 7.42/185.41 qualified #11, but he lost to Jerry Eckman in the opening round. At Memphis, Scribner's 7.51/185.75 qualified #15 for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. In round one, his 7.55/184.80 advanced when Geoffrey Bailey fouled. In the second round, a 7.59/180.57 dropped Morris Johnson Jr's 7.62/185. He fouled against eventual winner Tony Christian in the semi-final. At the end of the month, his next stop was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. Harry's 7.43/186.79 qualified #6. But he was late in round one, and his 7.45/186.14 fell to Joe Lepone's 7.51/183. He qualified #4 at the NHRA Grandnationals with a 7.42/186.38. He was upset in the first round by a quick-leaving Butch Leal. Shortly after, he was in Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northstar Nationals. He qualified with a 7.48 and improved to 7.47/186.10 in the first round to advance when Mark Pawuk broke. He made it to the semi-final, where his 7.51/185.10 beat Ken Koretsky's 7.59/184. He faced the T-Bird of Rickie Smith in the final, and Smith got the "jump." His 7.52/187 held off Scribner's quicker 7.49/185.07 runner-up effort. The following week (July 17), a 7.43/186.18 qualified #4 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Unfortunately, the car broke against Bruce Allen in the first round. The Scribners won their only NHRA National event at Sears Point this year. Harry's best ET was a weird 7.327 at only 178.57 at Houston Fall, followed by a 7.970/136 loss to Bob Glidden in round one. He was in the 7.40s all year, however. His best speed was the 188.56 at Sears Point.

Notes: At the season opener at Pomona, Scribner failed to qualify. He was the only car attempting to qualify using Firestone rubber. He also failed to make the field at the NHRA Gatornationals, where 50 cars showed. He also failed to make the show at the Mile High Nationals, with his best of 8.00/172.81 being the first alternate. Harry attempted to qualify at Seattle for the Seafair Nationals on August 6, but his best of 7.45/185.29 was only good for the #4 alternate. He then attempted to qualify at the Northstar Nationals, where a best of 7.54/182.48 still left him outside looking in (#5 alternate). He also failed to make the cut at Indy for the US Nationals with a 7.485/183.52 NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/89 (22th Alternate). Notes: Harry Scribner qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.31. Unfortunately, he fouled against low qualifier Darrell Alderman in the first round. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. Scribner was the fourth alternate at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals with a 7.44/185.29. He also failed to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, where he was the fifth alternate at 7.42/186.25. He surprised many people at the NHRA Grandnationals, where he jumped to a career-best(to this point)7.25/188.44 to qualify #4. Unfortunately, his 7.32/187.69 in the opening round lost to eventual winner Darrell Alderman's 7.24/189. Harry also made the field at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, where his 7.29/188.89 qualified #11. Jerry Eckman fouled against him in the first round, and he advanced with a 7.43/185.49. Notes: Harry qualified #9 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.25/189.95. In the first round, he ran an off pace 8.16/146 that lost to Jim Yates. At the Arizona Nationals, a 7.32 qualified #15, but again he lost early. He ran a strong 7.23/190.83 to qualify #12 at Houston for the Supernationals, but he lost to the eventual winner Mark Pawuk in the first round. He just missed qualifying at the Gatornationals when his 7.26/191.44 was good for the first alternate. Scribner was at Rockingham in April for the Winston Invitational. He qualified #15 with a 7.30/189.59, but a first-round 7.42/185.68 lost to Scott Geoffrion's 7.24/191. He lost early at the Southern Nationals in Atlanta after qualifying #13 with a 7.30. Harry qualified in the top half of the field at the next race when he ran a 7.29/190.83 for the #7 spot at the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis.
