Notes: Cliff was at Beech Bend on August 2 for an eight-car show. Jim Crownhart's Camaro broke against him in the first round, and he advanced with a 6.87/205.47. In the semifinal, he picked up to 6.77/206.89 to defeat Junior Thompson's 7.01/200. He faced the always tough Don Gerardot in the final. Don had run 6.78 in his semifinal win, so the final was expected to be close. Both clocked 204.54 in their final round match, but Gerardot's 6.79 won over Sewell's 6.84. Shortly after that, both were at Kil-Kare, where both made the final once again. Cliff set Low ET in round one, with a 6.90/187.11 that beat Crownhart. In the semifinal, his 6.95/187.89 dropped Fred Mandoline's 7.25/199. Once again, both Sewell and Gerardot had run within .01 of each other in their semifinal wins. Unfortunately, the final had the same results, as Don's 6.90/192 beat Cliff's off pace 7.23/178.92 runner-up effort. Cliff continued to reach the finals at Cordova for its World Series of Drag Racing. The only problem was, he continued to finish runner-up. This time his 7.18/202.66 in the final fell to Thompson's 7.00/202.

Notes: In July, Cliff was at Central Michigan Dragway for the NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #1 with a 6.83/187.89. In the opening round, he got the "odd-lot" solo as the field was one car short and ran 6.92/194.38. In the semifinal, his 6.91/189.97 lost to eventual winner Bob Gottschalk's 6.75/204. Finished runner-up to Junior Thompson in UDRA points championship in 1982. Cliff Sewell retired at the end of the year.
