Notes: Wendell Shipman was at Lions on June 29 for an Funny Car show. He was running a blown engine for the first time as he had Frank Pedregon's engine in the car. It seemed to work pretty well, as, in the first round, his 8.04 (Low ET) at 173.41 beat Marv Eldridge by more than a second. In the semifinal, he soloed with an 8.70/160.14 when Steve Bovan had transmission problems with Nelson Carter's Charger. He faced Gene Conway's Jeep in the final, and Conway lost a blower belt on his burnout, so Shipman got to make an easy single for the win.

Notes: Siroonian had a front tire blow at OCIR on February 22, and he smacked John Mazmanian's car into a light pole. The car was destroyed, and John had a new car built. It was ready for the Big 4 Championships at OCIR, held on May 2. When Rich climbed in, he found that he had no visibility outside of the car. So Wendell Shipman drove the car. Wendell made an easy first-round pass at the Big 4 race to win over Jr.Brogden. He lost to Ed Lenarth in the "Holy Toledo" Jeep in the second round. The following week (May 9th), he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show. There was no qualifying for this race. In the opening round, Shipman ran 7.61/190.66 to beat Jack Chrisman's 8.19/173. In the semi-final, Dave Beebe got out on him, but his 7.80/206.42 (Top Speed) drove around Dave's 8.07/170. He faced Pat Foster in the final, who was driving John Bateman's new Maverick. Foster broke a clutch while Wendell ran 7.58/194.80 for the victory. | Drove for one month, then turned seat back over to Rich Siroonian. - Mike Gagnon

Notes: Early in June, Shirley was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. His 7.65/179.64 qualified #13. In the opening round, his 7.72/180.36 lost to Rickie Smith's 7.48/185. He also qualified #13 at St. Louis for the IHRA Gateway Nationals. He upset Jim Ruth in the first round before the Camaro broke against Smith in round two. He qualified on the "bump" at Milan, Michigan, for the IHRA Northern Nationals with a 7.64/185.56. In the opener, his 7.64/184.42 fell to eventual winner Bob Glidden's 7.36/191. Edgewater was the next stop on the IHRA tour for its Summernationals race. A 7.65/181.81 qualified #14 there, but Smith stopped him in round one. The PHR Championships at Martin, Michigan, were run under IHRA rules in '86, and Barry's 7.56/183.29 qualified #6. In the first round, his 7.65 defeated Gary Hajek's 7.78. Glidden went into hard tire shake in round two and shut down while Shirley advanced with a 7.76/177.16. In the semi-final, his 7.70 lost to Billy Ewing's 7.56. Barry qualified #13 at Bristol for IHRA's season-ending Fallnationals. It was a tough show to make as the "bump" was a 7.67. Barry's 7.61/182.92 lost to Darrell Alderman's 7.52/182 in the first round. Barry ran 7.774/179.28 at ADRA Kansas City, MO, 8/85.
