Notes: Todd was at Houston in mid-August for the NHRA Division 4 final. His 6.31/222.00 qualified #5, but he had problems in the opener and slowed to 12.18/67.47 in a loss to eventual winner Brad Anderson who advanced at 6.11/228. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 6.19/217.23. An opening round 6.24/219.69 beat James Brown and in the semifinals, his 6.23/221.87 trailered Joe Penland Jr. He faced Jackie Stidham in the final, and while Jackie qualified #1 with a track-record 6.11, his best time during eliminations had been a 6.35. But Stidham came up with a 6.18/221 in the final to beat Simpson's runner-up effort of 6.21/220.71.
