Notes: Cliff drove Larry Bowers' car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #6 with a 7.71/186.33. In the opening round, his 7.68/192.30 beat Glenn Grigg's 7.92/188. Walt Rhoades fouled against him in round two, and he made an easy run to advance. In the semifinal, he improved to 7.62/194.54 to defeat Don Cain's 7.66/200. Notes: Drag Racing List Winter 87/88, Volume 1, Number 9, listed 6.223/218.44, but we were unaware of Craig's other AHRA Spokane times until 2013! Smith repeated his 6.18/219 qualifying times with a round one win over Randy Jensen, followed by the 6.22/218, and then an unreal 6.14 in the final in winning the event over 1986 event champ Paula Gage. In the Lawrence Customs Brokers machine. We believe that Craig purchased this car from Bob Lawrence. So one of three things happened: 1. Bob stayed on as a sponsor, 2. Craig just didn't get around to painting it, or 3. Bob still owned the car (don't think so). We need to confirm. The 6.14 was the quickest TA/D time of 1987. Were the AHRA rules that much different than the NHRA rules?
