Notes: Smith was the first alternate at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.10/221.13 best. Blair was at Englishtown in May for the NHRA Mopar Nationals. Unfortunately, his 6.39/229.12 best failed to qualify for the sixteen-car field. He was at Lebanon Valley for the NHRA Division 1 race in August. His 6.79/160.13 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. Both he and his opponent, Bob Sweet, had problems in the first round, and Blair's 8.01/188.71 beat Sweet's 8.74/103. In the semifinal, his 6.29/228.89 lost to Rick Fenwick's 6.21/217. Near the end of the month, he was at Raceway Park for the next NHRA Division 1 race. His 6.12/234.31 qualified #6. Unfortunately, he lost to Rich Fenwick in the first round.

Notes: "Jet Car" Bob Smith was severely burned in a gas dragster crash at Green Valley Raceway (Fort Worth, TEx.) in late August, as reported in the 8/27/68 Milwaukee Journal. Smith was a familiar name to Wisconsin drag racing fans, having crashed three times in the Milwaukee area, destroying two jet dragsters, in the five years prior to his Texas accident. The resilient Smith was back in the driver seat for the '68 season. - RT
