Notes: Paul attempted to qualify at Indy, but his 5.212/279.06 ended up as the seventh alternate for the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Shortly after, he went to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, where he qualified #12 with a 5.165/278.29. In the opening round, he lost to Dick LaHaie. Paul also qualified at the NHRA finals with a 5.191. Rebuilt car of Carey's Diesel.

Notes: Paul drove at NHRA Atlanta 1990 and qualified eighth at 5.407/263.77. He beat Tom Hoover in round one, 5.295/268.49 to 5.48/259. In round two, he beat Jim White, 5.525/257.95 to 8.93/95. In round three, Paul stood up to John Force, snatching a close 5.356/263.85 to 5.372/271.90 decision. Force got a slight holeshot, and the margin at the stripe was .011 seconds - about 4 feet!) In the final, Paul fell off to a 9.94, and Ed McCulloch got a 5.31/258 win.

Notes: Paul was the second alternate at NHRA Columbus in June at 5.362/254.09. At NHRA Sanair, he qualified #8 at 5.238/268.41. Shirley Muldowney drove around a solid holeshot to take a close 5.24/268 to 5.343/259.29 win in round one. At New York International on July 1, Paul was at the IHRA Empire Nationals. Qualifying was not much of an issue as only eight cars showed for the eight-car field. Paul ran 5.41 and then picked up to 5.30/256.54 in the opening round over Mike Brotherton. He smoked the tires against eventual winner Gene Snow in the semi-final. Paul qualified #14 at the NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown. He ran 5.203/268.73 in qualifying and then recorded a stout 5.180/272.23 that lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.07/275 in round one. 22 IHRA competition number. Pete was the second alternate at Pomona at 7.725/173.74 and the 12th alternate at Gainesville at 7.770/173.74. He then ran 7.821/174.48 at Atlanta (now in the Camaro) and was the second alternate at Baton Rouge at 7.754/177.33 back in the Firebird.
