Notes: From 1964 NHRA Winternationals entry list. | On February 2, Snively drove the "Scotty's Muffler" car to a win over an eight-car field at Pomona. He qualified #1 with an 8.10/188.28, and he advanced past the first-round with an 8.13/187.10. In the semifinals, he set Low ET and Top Speed on an odd-lot single run at 8.05/192.30. In the final, Mike was up against Steve Porter in the "Porter & Chambers" car. Porter's off-pace 8.41/84 was no match for Snively's 8.09/189.86.

Notes: Won Top Eliminator at Indy with 7.321/215.82. Won Winternationals at Pomona that year too (times to come), and turned 7.68, 206.42 at Lions on February 1 and 7.51/200.00 at 1966 March Meet. Ran 7.65 at Irwindale Dragway AHRA Winternationals. | Mike had big shoes to fill. He replaced Don Prudhomme at the wheel of Roland Leong's "Hawaiian." How do you follow a driver like Prudhomme in the driver's seat? Well, he did it by winning the Winternationals at Pomona. Mike qualified #3 with a 7.66 in the 32-car field. He beat Roy Thode in the first round, with a 7.57/208.80. In the second round, a 7.55/208.80 beat Paul Sutherland. He almost lost in round three when Pete Robinson had him beat, but Pete lost a blower belt and Snively squeezed past for the win. In the semifinals, a 7.59 beat James Warren's slightly quicker 7.58. For all the marbles, he ran a 7.54/209.78 to win over Jim Dunn's 7.59/207. The team went to Lions the following week (February 26) for the UDRA Winternationals. A 7.68/206.42 qualified #11 in the 32-car show, but they failed to reach the finals. At the Bakersfield March Meet, the "Hawaiian" lasted until round three when Mike got out of shape against Warren and crossed the centerline. On March 20, Mike ran an eight-car show at Irwindale. He qualified #2 with a 7.62 and ran an 8.32/95.44 to advance past the first-round, but in the semifinals, a 7.73 lost to Rick Stewart's 7.64. On April 2, he won a 16-car show at Irwindale. Mike beat the "Dark Horse" in the first round, with a 7.61/192.70. In the second round, a 7.76/166.66 advanced when John Martin fouled in the Muse-Crafton car. In the semifinal, he beat Dave Babler and for the money, a 7.53 beat Danny Ongais. The team was back at Irwindale on April 9 for another 16-car show. Snively lasted until the semifinals before losing to Dave Beebe. The "Hawaiian" team frequented Irwindale showing up on April 23 for yet another 16-car show. Mike qualified #1 with a 7.58. In the first round, he beat Babler's 7.68/209 with a track record 7.45 at 210.76. In the second round, a 7.55/190.66 beat Ray Ayres' 8.02/193. Mike was a little sleepy in the semifinal and his 7.58/206.88 lost to Stewart's 7.71/213. He set Low ET the following week (April 30) at Irwindale. He ran a 7.65/198.66 in the first round, while beating Dunn's 7.84/199. In round two a 7.97/181.08 beat Ayres' 7.95/193. Another 7.97/181.08 lost to Zane Schubert's 7.77/207 in the semifinal. Mike won the next Irwindale Top Fuel show on May 7th. He qualified #3 with a 7.87 and picked up to a 7.64/187.50 in the first round, over the injected car of John Evans. He got around Tommy Allen's 7.98/200 in round two with a 7.65/200.88. In the semifinal, he soloed with a 7.99/180. In the final, he beat Dunn with a 7.56/201.78. The next day they were at Carlsbad for a Jackpot Circuit race. In the first round, Snively's 7.57/202.24 beat Dunn's 7.64/205. In the semifinal, a 7.65/202.70 lost to eventual winner Beebe's 7.58/206.

Notes: Ran 7.04/221.66 in winning 4th Hot Rod Magazine championships at Riverside in April 1967 over Gene Brown. Ran 7.362/213.28 at Pomona Winters 67. | Mike started the '67 season at Irwindale for an eight-car show on January 29. He qualified #3 with a 7.36. In advanced past the first-round when Paul Sutherland fouled. In the semifinal, he got another free ride when Don Prudhomme fouled in Lou Baney's Ford. In the final, he was supposed to run Dave Beebe, but Beebe had lost his clutch and the team was unable to repair in time so they loaded up the dragster on the trailer and proceeded to line up their tow rig with trailer attached to run against Mike in the final. Mike won the event with a final run of 7.31/214.76. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, Snively was hoping for a repeat win. As mentioned above, his 7.36 qualified #10 in the 32-car show. In round one he beat Hampshire with a 7.38/212.26. In round two he ran his best time during the meet, a 7.35 at 212.26, but he lost to Connie Kalitta's 7.24/214. The following week (February 12), he was at Irwindale again for another eight-car show. Mike qualified #5 with a 7.29/197.36. He advanced past the first-round when Danny Ongais fouled. In the semifinal, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 7.10/217.90 in beating Leroy Goldstein's 7.13/207 in the "Crower & Blair" car. Snively faced Gerry Glenn in the "Andre, Trapp, and Glenn" car. Gerry stepped up to a 7.10/205.00 in the final to beat the "Hawaiian's" 7.32/172.41. He won the first annual Stardust National Open at Las Vegas. James Warren was his final round victim. At the big Bakersfield Meet on February 19, 70 Top Fuelers showed and Mike took the title. He started with a first-round 7.28/206.84 that beat Dan Rightsell and ended the show with a 7.29/212.26 that beat a crossed-up Beebe in the final.

Notes: Mike drove this car at the end of the '69 season. He showed up at Irwindale on December 14 for an eight-car show, but failed to qualify. The following week he was at Lions for the PDA Funny Car Nationals where he lost to Tommy Grove's Mustang in the first round. Mike shut off to 10.75/91.27.

Notes: Mike qualified #4 at the AHRA Winternationals. He beat Dave Babler in the first round, with a 7.17/214.28 and in round two he beat the "Snake," Don Prudhomme. Unfortunately, he lost to Cliff Zink in the third round. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but a week later, on February 9, Snively was at Lions for an eight-car show. He qualified #4 with a 7.20, but an improved 7.18/220.04 beat Joe Lee in the first round. In the semifinals, the car came up ailing and his 8.20/128.20 lost to eventual winner Carl Olson. He failed to qualify at the second OCIR All-Pro race that had 35 cars attempting to qualify for the eight-car show and on March 2, he also failed to qualify at the Bakersfield March Meet at Famoso. It was another tough show and even with 32 available spots, there were 115 cars attempting to qualify. The bad luck continued at Lions on March 8 for an eight-car show where he once again failed to make the field.

Notes: Jim Annin had Race Car Engineering build him this Challenger for the '70 season. The body for the car came from Fiberglass Trends. Keith Black built the 426 Hemi. Internals included M/T rods with Forgedtrue pistons, and Black's favorite, an Engle cam. Eagle was also responsible for the pushrods and lifters, but the rockers were stock. Black also ported and polished the heads and installed Donovan 2/1/4" intake and 2/1/8" exhaust valves. Larry Bowers built 21% overdriven GMC 6/71 that sat on a Cragar manifold. Cragar also supplied the blower drive. The 90% nitro was fed to the engine by Enderle injection. The 1,800 hp went through a B&M modified TorqueFlite transmission. Total weight for the car was 2,093 lbs. | Driver Mike Snively had a great year in Annin's Challenger. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified seventh with a 7.63. At the third OCIR All-Pro event, the car failed to fire for the first-round. At Bakersfield on March 8, he set Low ET at 7.63 before losing in the final. At the San Francisco National Open at Sears Point on March 15, Snively won the eight-car show with a final round 7.69/194.38 over Larry Reyes in the Hawaiian. On March 28, OCIR held a final All-Pro race and Mike's 7.57/196.50 and 7.37/200.44 got him into the semifinal where a 7.48/196.07 by Tom McEwen stopped his 7.51/191.00. Mike won the eight-car race on April 4 at Irwindale, setting Low ET at 7.35 and meeting Dave Beebe in the final. Both cars ran 7.65, but Snively prevailed. On April 18 at OCIR, Mike had Low ET and Top Speed at 7.29/201.34, but Ray Alley's 7.48/198.23 beat Mike's quicker 7.44/200.00 in round one. At OCIR's 32-car Big Four Championships on May 2, Snively ran 7.62/147.18, 7.95/153.58, and a Low ET and Top Speed shot of 7.21/205.01 before losing to Dave Beebe's 7.42/195.65 in the semis with a 7.59/196.50. Mike again set Low ET and Top Speed at 7.51/192.30 at NHRA's Division 7 race at Irwindale on May 23 and he defeated Ray Alley in the final with a 7.56/191.80. Another win came over a 16-car field on May 30 at the OCIR Funny Car 500. There he ran 7.48/200.00 for Top Speed of the meet, a second round 7.49/196.93 over Ed Lenarth, and a semifinal 7.51/188.67 over Dick Poll's 7.94/174 SOHC Mustang. In the final, Leroy Hales' Cougar broke so Mike singled to victory with a 7.41/195.22. Gene Snow's 7.20/207 beat Snively's 7.38/199 in round two at the NHRA Springnats. Yet another win came on June 20 at OCIR's March of Dimes race. Mike ran 7.44/174.75 and 7.33/187.89 to make the finals against Low ET car (7.25) Arnie Behling. In the final, Arnie fouled away a 7.41/202.70, but Mike's 7.26/203.61 was long gone for the win. The OCIR Nitro Championships on July 3 was next on Mike's list, but after running 7.41/183.29 and 7.46/180.36 he lost to Behling's 7.43/200 in John Mazmanian's 'Cuda in the semifinal with a 7.67/194.38. At NHRA's third Division 7 Points race at Bakersfield on August 9, Mike set Low ET at 7.41, but lost to Ed McCulloch's Duster in the final. Mike lost in the first round, to Dale Armstrong on August 15 at the OCIR Anniversary Race, but Dale's car exploded in the lights and Mike got back in on the break rule. So, with a second chance, he ran a second round 7.37/188.28 over a fouling Dave Beebe. He got an easy ride into the final when Marv Eldridge broke in the semis, but Snively still ran a 7.44/201.34. But his best pass of the night, a 7.30/203.61 wasn't enough to stop Gene Conway's 7.18/206. At the fourth Division 7 race at Bonneville on August 23, he won, setting both Low ET and Top Speed at 7.29/200.36 before dropping Steve Bovan's Hemi-Camaro in the final with a 7.32/198.59 to Bovan's 7.89/182. On August 29 at OCIR, Snively qualified second with a 7.19 and then ran 7.33/204.54 and a career-best 7.12/205.47 in the semis to beat Gene Conway's quicker 7.10/202.70. In the final, Snively's 7.33/201.34 narrowly beat Dave Beebe's 7.34/197.36. Mike took another win at Irwindale at an eight-car show on September 12. He qualified #1 with a 7.41/198.66 and ran 7.31/174.75 and 7.35/201.78 to make the final against Gene Conway. Mike's 7.26/204.54 set Low ET and Top Speed, beating Conway's 7.45/177. At the Fremont Fall Championships on September 26, Mike again made it into the finals, running 7.02/211.76 and 7.03/203.63 to meet Rich Siroonian in the final. A 7.07/210.76 wasn't enough to stop Rich's 6.86/214.28 Low ET and Top Speed run. On October 10, OCIR held its East/West Championships and Mike qualified #1 in the western team with a 7.07. He ran another 7.07/208.33 in round one, over Dave Beebe (7.23/204.54), and a second round 7.32/201.34 beat John Collins' 7.47 in the Atlas Oil Tool car to meet Gene Conway for the Western final (winner goes against the winner of the East for the title). Conway's 7.19/198.67 beat Mike's 7.30/205.01. On November 14, Irwindale held a 32-car Funny Car show. Mike ran a 7.27/201.78 in round one, but a 6.95/194.80 by eventual winner Jim Dunn beat him in the second frame. On November 22 for the NHRA Supernationals, Mike qualified sixth with a 7.13 and beat Ed McCulloch in round one, with a 7.03/203. Dunn then beat him again in round two. Snively got a six at OCIR's final race for '70 on December 5. Snively ran a first-round 7.02/212.76 over Leroy Goldstein's 7.09/211.76 in the Ramchargers Challenger. A second round 6.99/212.76 beat the Ramchargers again as they got back in with the break rule in effect (Low ET loser returns if breakage takes you out). In the final against Low ET car (6.83) Richard Tharp in the Blue Max, Mike had problems and an 8.12/112 is all he could do while Tharp won with a 6.91/216.94. - Ron Howard | Best NHRA time was 7.01/197.36.
