Notes: Bob and Joy had a solid NHRA campaign in 1975. They did not qualify at Pomona but ran 6.36/194.38. At Gainesville, they also failed to qualify, finishing as the fifth alternate (times unavailable). Bob qualified #15 at Columbus with a 6.203/234.37 but lost to Don Garlits in round one, 6.03/227 to 6.16/237.46. Bob stepped it up at the Sanair Grand Nationals, qualifying #5 at 6.222- 225.00. In round one, he lost to Grant Stoms, 6.12/229 to 6.40/225. At Indy for the US Nationals, Bob qualified #23 at 6.11 at a booming 245.90 mph. Unfortunately, he lost again in round one, to Stoms, 6.29/213 to Bob's 6.556 at 239.36. Bob qualified #6 at Seattle with a 6.044/245.23. Unfortunately, he lost again in round one, this time to an Ernie Hall holeshot, 6.256/233.16 to Bob's 6.244/238.72. Bob found the 5-second zone in a big way at NHRA Ontario. He qualified #9 with a 5.889/248.61. Unfortunately, in round one, he lost to Garlits again, 5.79/242 to 6.136/240.64. Notes: Strucksnes was nicknamed 'Back Door Bob' because he 'drove it out the back door' (ran continually high speeds). Bob started his '76 season at the AHRA Winternationals in Tucson. In the opening round, his 6.28/226.70 beat Billy Graham's 6.52/224. A 6.43/224.43 was enough to defeat Shirley Muldowney's ailing 7.28/141 in round two, but he smoked the tires and shut off to 8.87 in the semi-final and lost to Paul Longenecker's 6.34/212. His 6.12/238.98 qualified #7 at Beeline Dragway, Phoenix, for the Winter Classic. In round one, Bruce Hagestad had an oil leak and shut down on the line against him, and Bob ran 6.29/226.13 to advance. Both he and Herm Petersen smoked the tires in the semi-final, and Herm's 6.55/227 beat his 6.56/229.00. At Gainesville, he qualified #4 for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.04/248.61 (Top Speed). An engine-damaging 6.62 beat John Wiebe in the first round, as John lost traction and shut down. Struksnes was unable to repair in time for round two. He was in Denver in April for the NHRA Division 5 opener. He made it into the final, where his 6.63/194.39 finished runner-up to Wiebe's 6.42/220. He won the second NHRA Division 5 race held at Pueblo Motorsports Park on May 23. He set Low ET in the final with his 6.34/217.37, stopping Tom Kaiser's 6.44/199. Struksnes really ran well at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. His 6.00/243.24 qualified second to Richard Tharp's 5.94/243 in the "Candies and Hughes" car. A 6.16/237.46 defeated James Warren in round one before his 6.19/240.00 fell to Dale Funk's 5.99/238 in round two. He and Kaiser reversed their roles at Marion SD for the third NHRA Division 5 race held at Thunder Valley. Kaiser was running an aluminum KB for the first time, and his 6.57/219 in the final beat Bob's 6.82/173.41 runner-up effort. He then won the fourth NHRA Division 5 race held in Minnesota on July 25. Only five cars showed, and he got to make an easy first-round single when Ed Diehm failed to show. He got the "odd-lot" solo in the semi-final and ran 6.43/215. He faced Graham Light in the final, and his 6.31/241.93 (Top Speed) got the win. Bob also ran 6.03/241.93 at the NHRA US Nationals in September. His best NHRA National event times were 5.995 at Seattle and 248.61 at the Gators, although he had some 6.00 and 6.01 times, too. Some times and information from National Dragster, 6/27/75.

He won the third NHRA Division 5 race at Thunder Valley, Marion, SD He qualified #3 with a 6.54 and in the semifinals, his 6.47/215.82 dropped low qualifier Lee Beard's 6.66/218. In the final, Tom Kaiser fouled against him, but Bob still ran 6.41 for Low ET as well as the win. He qualified #6 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 6.03/240.00, but he was late off the line in round one, and his 6.09 lost to Ron Attebury's 6.20. He also won the next NHRA Division 5 race at Brainerd, where he set Low ET and Top speed in the final with a 6.13/236.84 to beat Kaiser's 6.25/229.

Notes: Known as "Back Door Bob" because he consistently was a Top Speed car for several years throughout the 70s (i.e., "drove it out the back door.") Photo from 1978 US Nationals. Bob failed to qualify at the NHRA Winternationals. He was having a rough time getting the dragster through tech inspection. The car didn't have the mandatory burn-down breather and an oil overflow catch tank. Tech director Jim Duke talked with Bob's wife Joy, and they got it worked out. He made a 6.122 pass and attempted another, but the car went into heavy tire shake, and he fell short of the 6.04 bump. He did make the show at the Gatornationals with a 6.241/232.55, getting the #15 qualifying spot. A 6.44/230.17 in the first round, lost to Clayton Harris' 6.27/227. Bob was the third alternate at Baton Rouge with a 6.34 (speed unavailable). That was his last NHRA national event of the year. Did Bob run 239.36 on a Gatornationals qualifying pass? The 232.55 is the officially listed speed from that event.
