Notes: Sugden primarily raced at Salt Lake Airport No. 2. He built the frame and chassis, but was helped with the engine by a group of co-owners: Duane and Don Wignall, Ernie Burgess, and Bob Hopkins. Burgess was replaced by Barnes by the summer. They raced successfully to start the season at the Silver Dollar Drags at Las Vegas on March 16. They took top fuel eliminator with 134.17 mph. He beat John Bradley in the Gene's Brake Shop Special to win. That was quite an accomplishment for the new dragster. They were beaten off the line in a losing run against Northern California's Del Thorkelson in the top eliminator finals. They used a 283 cubic inch '57 Chevy engine in the dragster. On May 11 at Salt Lake, they set a new strip record and won top eliminator with 143.08 mph, running fuel. On May 25 at Salt Lake, they switched to gas and took the top gas time with 125.47 mph.
