Notes: We need to confirm this 5.76. Do not think that the team went that quick (and indeed, NHRA reports that their 5.96 bump spot qualifier at Gainesville 3/81 was a career best to that point). Ran 238.72 at Columbus and 6.05 at Indy 80. | Kerry was at Rockingham in April for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified for the eight-car field, but a 6.14/234 in the first round, lost to Mark Oswald's 6.12/236. On May 4 he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division 1 Opener. A 6.45/234.98 qualified #6 for the eight-car show. Sweigert really improved once eliminations started as in round one, he beat Bobby Hilton with a 6.10/213.27. In the semifinals, a 6.15/217.91 beat Larry Bucher. He faced Jeb Allen in the final and unfortunately, he smoked the tires to a 14.97 that lost to Jeb's 6.01. Kerry was the first alternate at the NHRA Springnationals with a best of 6.12/238.72. He qualified #12 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he lost to Marvin Graham in the first round. At New England for the NHRA Division 1 final Kerry's 6.29/228.42 qualified #6. He had problems in the first round, and shut off on the line against Neil Mahr. Kerry barely made the show at Indianapolis where his 6.05/240.64 qualified #31 in the 32-car field. John Kimble's 6.10/232 in the first round, beat his 6.13/237.46.

Notes: Swensen was at Englishtown in September for its Fallnationals. In the first round, his 7.86/180 beat Gary Richard's "Black Shadow," but Arne hurt some parts and could not return for the semifinal. Shortly after that, he was at Atco for the final NHRA Division 1 race. He made it to the final, where he lost to Fred Goeske. Also confirmed 7.72 at Englishtown 1970. | Early (392) hemi/TorqueFlite combo. Featured in 1/71 issue of Super Stock & Funny Car. The article claimed unattributed best times (late in '70 season) of "7.40s and speeds of 193 mph." - RT

Notes: Actually qualified second for an 8-car open Top Fuel show at Englishtown on April 4 per Raceway News. This car was destroyed in July at Budds Creek (MIR). It was during the running of the Funny Car Nationals. Arnie beat Butch Maas in the wheelstanding "Hawaiian" in the first round, with a 7.49/205, but in round two, while racing Bruce Larson, Arnie had an engine let go, and the Mustang caught fire. He got the car stopped, and Larson helped him exit the burning car. He was OK; the Mustang was not.

Notes: Arne was at Cecil County for its National Open on April 15. He qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 7.03. He faced alternate Pete Hill in the first round, and his 8.90-89.91 advanced when Hill lost fire. He also got to solo in the semifinal when Wayne Oxner's Charger broke. This time Swensen ran 11.26/61.98 to advance. And wouldn't you know it? Pee Wee Wallace had a blower belt come off in the final while Arne ran 7.06/200.00 for the victory. On May 6, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division 1 opener. Unfortunately, in the opening round, his 6.91/188.67 fell to Wallace's 6.65/216. He also competed at the Spring FC Championships in New England, where he lost to Jimmy King in the opening round. Swensen then went to Connecticut for its first sixteen car show of the year. He lost to the eventual winner, "Jungle Jim" Liberman, in the second round. There was no shortage of races to attend in '73, and the Swensen and Lani team made its way to Dragway Park at Cayuga, Ontario, for its Canadian All-Pro Championships in June. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, his 7.17 defeated Roy Harris in the "Frantic Ford." But in the semifinal, Liberman again foiled their plans when his 7.78/204 beat Arne's 7.85/197.36. At the third NHRA Division 1 race held at Maple Grove, Swensen ran 7.08/204.08 to beat Hill's 7.10/189 in the first round. The car hurt the engine on the pass, and he could not return for his semifinal race against Tom Prock. The team returned to Connecticut for its Summer FC Championships held later in June. Only now Jake Crimmins was driving for the team. In the first round, his 6.74/213.77 stopped Al Segrini's 6.87/210. In round two, he used a 6.77/212.67 to beat Bill Leavitt's 6.78/209. The car broke in the semifinal.
