A 7.49/199.66 defeated Larry Faust's 7.92/198 in the opening round, but he fouled away a 7.51/202 in the semifinal that lost to John Mulligan. Swingle ran a 7.38/212.56 to qualify second at Riverside on June 19 for the HRM Championships. He lasted until the third round (32-car field), where John Edmunds' 7.62 beat his quicker 7.46/213.76.
