Notes: John Harbert hired Bob Tapia to drive his "Pegasus" in '64. The team ran well, Bob's first run in the car was 7.84/200.00. The second time out the team raced at San Fernando where he ran 7.67 and 7.72 at 201.48 for a new strip record. Bob was at Lions for its Anniversary Race on September 26. He qualified #1 with an 8.10/197.80. The track was slick and the team didn't think that their time would hold through qualifying so they loaded up and went to Fontana where they ran a track record 7.54 at 204 and went on to beat Bob Downey in the A&W Root Beer car in the final. After the win they stopped at a restaurant and made a call to Lions to see who had Low ET and Top Speed. It turned out that their morning run had held for Low ET and Top Speed (back then you got paid for Low ET and Top Speed). Tom McEwen had tried all day to better Bob's ET and failed. So that day, they had set Low ET and Top Speed at two different tracks. On November 11, Tapia faced Fisher and Greth for a best of three match at Beeline and won, turning a best of 7.82/195. The following week, the team won at Lions, beating the feared Greer, Black and Prudhomme car on the way to the win. The next day they won a race at San Fernando where Bob set Low ET and Top Speed. John Harbert wanted to go back to driving again and in January '65 he returned to the wheel.

Notes: The famous Red Stamp car, repainted. Bobby set the national record on 4/25/65 at Carlsbad, CA (205.46). Also set Lions track record at 209.78 on July 10/1965. Also went 7.545, and speeds of 207.85, 204.08. Herbert Cams ad cited 7.52/207 bests. | Bobby started the '65 season by getting a runner-up finish to Jack Williams at the Riverside KFWB Drag Festival on January 1. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 7.90/200.00. His 8.38/138.46 advanced in the first round, when opponent Bill Alexander fouled away a 7.92/194. Tapia got another easy win in the semifinals when Kenny Safford failed to fire. Bobby coasted through with an 8.89/133.74. He lost to Jack in the "Crossley-Williams" car in the final. He was at Lions on January 16 for another eight-car show. A 7.83/198.22 qualified #3, but the car lost fire in the first round, and he lost to Mike Sorokin. ET from Herbert Cams Ad 1965.

Notes: Bobby Tapia ran well at the UDRA Winter Championships at Lions. He beat Mike Sorokin, driving the "Surfers" car in the first round, and a quick-leaving 7.81 in round two beat Tom McEwen's quicker 7.62. He then beat Jack Williams and Jim Dunn to reach the final against Dave Beebe. Unfortunately, not only did Tapia foul, but he also lost a motor and had to settle for the runner-up spot. The team then borrowed an engine from Jim Brissette while a new one was being built, and eventually ran a best of 7.23. Bob got a couple of runner-up finishes at Irwindale. The team returned to Lions on May 28 for a sixteen-car show. Unfortunately, Bob's 7.76/212.76 in round one lost to James Warren's 7.50/212. At the HRM Championships, a 7.72/202.70 qualified #28. He fouled away a 7.74/205.46 in the opening round against Rick Stewart. Also ran 7.76 at Lions UDRA Winter Championships.
