Notes: The "Hemi-Hunter" team built a new rear-engined car for '72. The car only cost $8,500 to build and S&W Race cars was chosen to build the 240" wheelbase chassis. The engine was a 454 Chevy truck block bored out to 468. Howards supplied the cam as well as the rods and Arias was chosen to supply the pistons. Stock closed chamber cast-iron heads were used. A Cragar blower drive and manifold was used and Enderle injection fed the nitro mix. Engine was said to make between 1,300/1,400 hp. A Lenco two-speed transmitted the power back to a Dana rear end carrying 4.10 gears. The total weight was just 1,420 lbs.

Notes: Chevy fans of nitro racing had a rough couple of years in '70-'71. They had to watch their beloved "Rat" motor lose ground to the Hemis. One by one, the Chevy Funny Car runners switched to the Mopar powerplant to remain competitive. One guy, Jim Bucher, slowly changed this. He kept banging away at the Rat until it started to come back to life in the Top Fuel class. Roger Toth and the aptly named "Hemi-Hunter" also became competitive and helped stem the Hemi tide. The team didn't tour nationally, but Toth was tough to beat on a local level. He was at the NHRA Division 1 Opener at Englishtown, beating Ed Moses in the first round with a 6.56/213.27. Unfortunately, he lost to Bob Tortorete in the semifinals. At the Dutch Classic held at Maple Grove, Roger's 6.62 got the "bump spot" for the eight-car field. He improved to a 6.46/217.39 in his first-round win over Hank Endres' 6.59/216, but the Chevy broke, and Toth could not return for the semifinals. He was back at Maple Grove in the middle of June to make a couple of practice runs. He ran 6.67/213.27 and 6.53/215.89. Early in September, he was at Cecil County for a best of three against Tommy Ivo. Roger made a lot of Chevy fans happy by beating the hemi-powered car three straight. A 6.50/212 in the first race beat Ivo's 6.81/211. In the second race, Toth's 6.45/211 topped Tommy's 6.69/213, and to earn the bragging rights, a final 6.48/217 beat Ivo's 6.54/15 in their final race. Shortly after that, he was back at Englishtown for the NED Fallnationals. His 6.42/223.88 qualified second to Grant Stoms's 6.24/223 in the eight-car field. Larry Bucher smoked the tires against him in the first round, and Toth advanced at 6.47. He picked up to 6.37/224.43 in the semifinal to beat Sarge Arciero in the "Jade Grenade." He faced Jim Grace in the final, and Grace ran his best time of the meet, a 6.39/229, to beat Roger's 6.52/229.59 runner-up effort. The following week (September 15), he went to Atco for the NHRA Division 1 final. A 7.32/20179 solo advanced in round one when Dale Thierer lost fire. But in the semifinal, he hazed the tires, and his 6.83/215.82 lost to Ted Wolf's 6.52/223.

Notes: From a Facebook post on Englishtown Memories. This is all the info we have. The year is an estimate: Yeah, I remember back in the mid-70s when Roger Toth drove a funny car. I believe the car's name was "Trailblazer." He had the body off in the pits working on it, and they pushed it over to the rollers and got it started. It stalled out, and he and his crew were pushing the vehicle back, and I was walking alongside them, and he had me get in the funny car with no body on it. I ripped my pants, and we all got a good laugh, and they pushed me back into the parking space. I was like 14/15 years old. It sure made my day. That guy was great. Notes: This was one of a growing number of Chevrolet-powered cars in the Top Fuel class. The "Hemi Hunter" ran quite well in '74, and while it wasn't a threat on the national level, on a local basis, this team ran strong. At the NHRA Division 1 Opener at Englishtown, Toth was looking good. He reached the final against Grant Stoms only to have the Chevy lose fire on the line. Roger could only watch as Grant soloed for the victory. The team then went to Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic, but an opening round 6.60/192.30 lost to Sarge Arciero's 6.28/222. Sixteen cars attempted to qualify for the eight spots available at Maple Grove on June 22 for the NHRA Division 1 race. Toth qualified #6, and in the first round, his 6.46/215.31 fell to Sam Miller's holeshot 6.48/190. They attended the PRO National Challenge race at New York National, where a 6.44/193.96 qualified #22 in the 32-car field. Unfortunately, the car sneezed a blower on the line in the first round, against Jim Walther. Atco hosted the NHRA Division 1 final, and Toth made it into the final. He singled with a 6.68 in the first round, when Hank Endres broke, and in the semifinals, Gary Beck broke on the line, and Toth ran an easy 7.20/193.54 to advance. But in the final, the Chevy coughed and died on the line, giving Charlie Greer a solo for the money. The stars all lined up for the team on October 6 at the Englishtown Fallnationals. Toth qualified #1 for the eight-car show with a 6.38. A first-round 6.35/222.22 advanced when Satch Nottle fouled, and a consistent 6.37/220.58 beat Ted Wolf's 6.92/227 in the "Jim and Allison Lee" car in the semifinals. Roger let it all hang out in the final, running 6.30 (Low ET) at 230.17 over Greer's runner-up 6.43/226.
