Notes: Dale attempted to qualify at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, but his 6.68 failed to make the show. That was the team's only NHRA national event. Late in March, he took the car to Maple Grove to make some test runs. His best time was 6.68/211.76. On April 15, he was at Cecil County for its National Open. Dale qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car show with a 6.82. He improved to 6.64/215.82 in the opening round of competition to beat Satch Nottle, who broke. His opponent, Jim Grace, lost fire in the semifinal, and Thierer soloed at 12.00-79.01. In the final, he faced Casey Powell, and Casey's car broke, so Dale ran 6.60/196.50 for the victory. Another victory came his way on May 6 when he won the NHRA Division 1 opener at Englishtown. He set Low ET and Top Speed in round one, with a 6.56/213.27 that defeated Ed Moses. In the semifinal, he only needed a 6.76/180.72 to get around a tire-smoking Chuck Savoca. He faced Bob Tortorete in the final, and despite both cars smoking the track, Dale's 7.27/163.13 came out on top over Bob's 7.42/193. He also ran really well at Maple Grove for the Dutch Classic. He qualified #1 with a 6.44, but a blown head gasket slowed him to 7.77 in the first round, that lost to Grace's 6.75 in the "Pleasure Seekers" car. His next win came over an eight-car field at Englishtown in June. There he ran 6.78/215.84 to beat Dodger Glenn's 7.35 in the "Hired Gun" car in round one, and a semifinal 6.84/210.28 beat a wheel-spinning Tortorete. He faced Grant Stoms in the final, and Grant overpowered the track. Dale won, but there were no times recorded on his run. Back at Mape Grove on June 24 for the third NHRA Division 1 race, Dale lost early when his 6.49/212.26 lost to eventual winner Flip Schofield's 6.39/217 in the opening round.

Notes: Dale was at Cayuga in May for the second NHRA Division 1 race. Unfortunately, an off-pace 7.33 in the first round, lost to Bob McNew's 6.98. At the third Division 1 race held at Maple Grove, Dale only qualified #7 in the eight-car field. He made up for it by running 6.49/209.79 in the first round, over Larry Bucher's quicker 6.47/214. He got a single in the semifinals when Grant Stoms was unable to show and in the final, his 6.50/200.00 took the victory when Sam Miller broke.

Notes: Dale qualified #13 with a 6.21/230.76 at the NHRA Gatornationals but lost on a holeshot by Richard Tharp in the first round, when his 6.29/229 fell to Tharp's 6.31/242. He ran well at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. Traction was a problem there, and Thierer's 6.60/190 qualified #3. A first-round 6.38/220 beat Bob Hilton and a 6.47/211 advanced into the finals when Paul Longenecker broke. He ran a 6.81/177 in the final to finish runner-up to Clayton Harris' 6.27/234. In April, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. His 6.22/233 qualified #3, but an off-pace 6.93/220 lost to Mike Palmer's 6.84/217 in the first round. The team ended up as the first alternate at Englishtown at 6.22 (no speed reported). Dale was the second alternate at the Sanair Grandnational with a 6.08. He then ran the same number to qualify #13 at Indy at 6.08/233.16. He ran 6.232/227.84 in a narrow first-round loss to John Abbott's 6.215/225.
