Notes: Troxel qualified #1 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.157 (Low ET) at 220.75. In the first round, he got to solo at 6.24/216.91 when Craig Smith broke. In round two, Denny Lucas fouled against him and Mike ran 6.37/211.76 to advance. In the semifinal, Ken Murray also fouled against him so a 6.56/178.21 got him into the final. He faced #2 qualifier Bill Barney for the title. The two had a good race but Troxel's 6.24/217.91 got the victory over Barney's 6.26/220. He then went to Miami-Hollywood for the NHRA Division 2 opener. His 6.26/216.34 qualified #3 in the eight car field. In the opening round, his 6.30/208.33 beat Amy Faulk's 6.65/200. In the semifinal, Barney got some payback for his loss to him at Pomona. Bill's 6.23/216 defeated Mike's 6.39/164.83. The following week (March 20), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Once again, he qualified #1 at 6.25/217.97. Larry Lay fouled against him in round one and Mike's 6.29/210.13 advanced. Unfortunately, a broken transmission slowed him to a 11.46/63.57 in round two. That run lost to Murray's 6.15/213. Mike won the inaugural NHRA Baytown event with best times of 6.220/216.81. He was runner-up at NHRA Englishtown at 6.257/217.18 bests. Mike won the NHRA championship this year.
