Notes: Bruce ran both the Camaro and the new Vega in 1972. Confirmed 9.48 at OCIR per Gordy Faust's recollection (at the all-Chevy big block contest which was expected to be dominated by Sonny Bryant and Richie Zul). Qualified #5 at NHRA Ontario 1972 at 9.507/144.69. Ran 9.540/144.00 in a Round 1 holeshot loss to Dick Brannan’s 9.640/143.08. Also ran 143 at OCIR 1972. Early qualifying leader at IHRA Bristol 10/13/72 at 9.78/140.18. | At the NHRA Springnationals, Bruce qualified #9 at 9.820, which set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bill Jenkins. Walker’s 9.87 lost to "Grumpy's" 9.77. He was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. There were 32 cars attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car field and his 9.90 qualified #7. That was pretty impressive as he was ahead of Don Carlton, Don Nicholson, Roy Hill, Bobby Yowell, Reid Whisnant, and others. An opening round 9.93 beat Linwood Craft, but a second round 9.83/138.86 lost to Herb McCandless' 9.75/141. It was still a good showing as he had the only big block Chevy that made the field. On June 25, Bruce was at the Warner Robins National Open. He made it to the final where his 9.85/138.67 finished runner-up to Whisnant's 9.73/138. | Originally listed 9.425 for this year. Notes: Trick John Buttera chassis could be completely stripped down for access. Bruce qualified #19 for the NHRA Winternationals at 9.821/139.10 but did not return for the rain date two weeks later. He was at Lakeland for the IHRA Winternationals, where the car showed up using a new Lenco 4-speed transmission. He had the strongest Chevy there, running 9.72 to qualify #7. Bruce improved to 9.65/140.18 in the first round, to beat Bill Rolentan, and in round two, he ran even quicker at 9.51/140.56. But it wasn't enough as Ronnie Sox beat him with a 9.31/145.

Notes: Bruce started his season at the AHRA Winternationals where he qualified #15 with a 6.36/216.86. In the first round his 6.39/222.77 lost to Dominic Cardoza's 6.20/229. But Cardoza broke and was unable to run in round two so Bruce was reinstated on the "break rule." In round two, he ran a consistent 6.40/222.22, but lost to Gary Beck's 6.15/230. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, his best of 6.20/230.76 failed to qualify. He was at Bakersfield for the March Meet where he ran 6.24 to qualify #9. In the first round, he ran 6.41, but lost to Dwight Hughes. Early in April he was at OCIR for an AHRA Grand American race. There were 42 cars attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car field and Bruce's 6.38 got him the #5 spot in the show. Unfortunately, he lost to Gary Ritter in the opening round. Team ran 6.32 221.97 1974 NHRA US Nationals.
