Notes: Fred had been running well on the mid-west UDRA circuit, but he didn't get his first victory until June 9 at Muncie, Indiana. It was an eight-car field, and in the opening round, his 7.40/191.08 advanced when Harry Brewer fouled. In the semis, Clarence Hay also fouled against him in the "Nitro-Holic." Fred ran 7.61/196.92 to advance. He faced the Mauer-Willis team in the final. Noel was always tough to beat on the UDRA circuit, and in the final, he also left too early, throwing away a 7.40 while Welchman ran 8.10 to win. On June 22, he was at Cordova for another UDRA race. Both he and his opponent, Brewster, fouled in the first round. Both were disqualified. He was at Edgewater for the circuit's next stop the following week. He set Low ET and Top Speed at 7.33/206.88 before losing in the semifinal. The UDRA's next stop was at Martin, Michigan, on July 6. Fred's 7.53/180.36 advanced when the "Nitro-Holic" fouled in the opening round. Welchman was late in the semifinal as his 7.19/210.78 lost to eventual winner Dave Powers' 7.26/209. | The Telstar team was one to beat throughout the '68 UDRA racing season. - RT

Notes: Wellborn was a member of the Eugene Road Kings car club. On May 13 at Scappoose, Wellborn won his class, but was runner-up in top eliminator to Monty Rowland. On June 17 at Aurora, he set a new B/FD record with 132.47 mph. He won the B/FD class at Aurora on July 1 with 132.11 mph. At Aurora Airstrip on July 15, he won his class with 123.05 mph. He was beaten in the finals of top eliminator at Aurora on July 29 by Eayres and Graves' Mercury flathead dragster.
