Notes: Orange County run made Frank the 16th and final member of the Cragar Five Second Club. Photo from the 1974 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. | Frank started his season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals in January He qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.27/217.39. Another 6.27 at 220.58 advanced in the opening round and a holeshot 6.20/225.00 beat Jerry Ruth's 6.16/225 in round two. His run came to an end in the semifinals where Don Garlits unleashed Low ET and Top Speed (5.78/247) to stop Bradley's advance. He went to Pomona the following week for the NHRA Winternationals where his 6.12/220.04 qualified #11. Dwight Hughes fouled against him in round one, and Bradley took an easy 7.25/142.63 ride into round two. Unfortunately, an off-pace 6.43/215.82 lost to Bob Noice’s 6.30/201. At the Bakersfield March Meet, Frank’s 6.16/225.00 qualified #5 in the 32-car field. He won his first-round race easily and then took a close one from Randy Allison in round two where his 6.25/227.84 beat Randy's 6.27/230. He gave eventual winner Carl Olson his biggest scare in round three where Frank's 6.09/232 lost out to Olson's quick-leaving 6.10/217. At the end of March, he was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. There he qualified #11, but he lost to James Warren in the opening round. A week later (April 6), it was Warren again who stopped him in the first round. This time at OCIR for the AHRA Grand American race held there. Frank had run a 6.40 to qualify #9. That was pretty good considering that there were 42 cars attempting to make the sixteen-car show. His next stop was at Sacramento for the second NHRA Division 2 race. He had a great leave in his first-round race that saw his 6.19/228.43 beat Ron Attebury's quicker 6.10, but in round two he lost to the eventual winner Olson.

Wiebe broke giving the second round to Frank Bradley. Indy 5.96/242.58 was one half of the quickest and fastest pass to date that that time (Ted Wolf, 5.97/243.24).

Notes: Bradley started the season at the Ontario Motor Speedway New Year's Day race. He qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.40. A 6.16/230 in the first round, beat a motor blowing Bob Williams. But in round two, he slept on the line, and his 6.10/233 lost to Randy Allison's 6.32/201. He then went to Irwindale for the Grand Premier event. A 5.89/236.84 qualified #2 behind Stan Shiroma's 5.86. An opening round 5.95/220 beat Frank Prock's 6.47/183. In the second round, Bradley recorded a 5.93/232 while beating Gary Cornwall, and in the semifinals, Larry Dixon smoked the tires against him, and he advanced with a 5.96/223. In the final, he faced another Chevy-powered car, the "Valley Fever" car driven by Rance McDaniel. Bradley was favored to win as Rance had run 6.24 in his semifinal win. But in the final, tire smoke did Bradley in, and he limped across the finish line at 10.20 while Rance got the victory with a 6.15. Frank didn't have to wait long before he got another chance in the final. That came at Tucson Dragway for the AHRA Winternationals. He qualified #2 with a 6.15 and then beat McDaniel's 6.76 in the first round, with a 6.33. In the second round, Tom Kaiser's 6.46/212 lost to his 6.25/214.28. In the semifinals, a 6.29/211.76 dropped Jim Plummer's off-pace 6.67/200. He went up against the #1 qualifier(6.03), Paul Longenecker, in the final. Bradley ran his best ET of the weekend, a 6.15/222.22, to get the victory over Longenecker's 6.31/224 runner-up effort. His next stop was at Beeline for the Phoenix Winter Classic. There, his 6.17/228.42 qualified #10. In the first round, Longenecker got some revenge by running 6.04/223 to trailer Frank's 6.12/214.28. Then it was off to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #3 at 5.88/241.28. He went on to win, stopping Longenecker in round two with a 6.03. In the semifinals, his 6.09-beat Richard Tharp in the "Candies and Hughes" car. He faced the always tough James Warren in the final. Bradley picked up his first NHRA national event victory with a 5.93/241.28, beating Warren at 6.01/241. On February 22, promoters called Frank to fill in at Fremont's East vs. West Championships. It was a six-car round-robin race. Bradley had trouble in his first race against Shirley Muldowney, and he shut down on the line. In his second race, he again had problems, this time with a blown head gasket, and he lost to Larry Dixon. He was unable to run his third race. He did not run at the Bakersfield March Meet, but he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. There, his 6.09/217.91 qualified #7. He got to solo in the first round and ran 6.75/157.61 when Lee Weller broke on the line. In round two, Longenecker smoked the tires hard against him, and Bradley advanced with a 6.10/217.91. In the semifinals, it was a rematch of the Pomona final. This time, Warren got the win with a 6.20/239, topping Frank's 6.29/201.79. The following week (March 21), he stopped in at LaPlace Dragway for the NHRA Division 6 opener. Frank did well. In round one of the eight-car show, he stopped a motor blowing Gary Beck with a 6.28/205.94. A semifinal 6.21/205.47 beat Don Durbin's 6.51/213 and assured him a spot in the final. Unfortunately, in that final, he faced Low ET setter(6.10), Marvin Graham and Graham's 6.18/234 beat Bradley's 6.26/209.00 for the victory. The first NHRA Division 7 race was run at Fremont on March 28. Bradley qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field at 6.18/220.58. An opening 6.16/220.58 beat Ray Church's 6.46/215. In round two, Dennis Baca's 6.37/231 fell to his 6.23/214.79. In the semifinals, Gary Cornwall's 6.53/182 faded to Frank's 6.14/223.32. Bradley faced upstart Dave Braskett in the final, and Dave was no easy target as he had run a 6.14 of his own in his semifinal win. Both ran their slowest times of the weekend, but Bradley prevailed, running 6.31/225.0 over Braskett's 6.57/214. On April 11, he was at Kansas City International for the AHRA Show Mw Nationals. In round one of the eight-car show, his 6.08 beat Chris Karamesines. But in the semifinals, Bill Pryor's 6.07/232 beat his 6.21/201.34. Qualified third at OCIR WCS with a 5.96/240.64 and made it to the semis. Ran 5.89 at Irwindale Grand Premiere. Bradley was runner-up at Green Valley at the AHRA Nationals in 7/76.

Notes: Frank started the season by running 6.38/223.38 at the PRO event at Beeline on 1/14/77. He qualified #6 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.98. Unfortunately, he lost to Ernie Hall in the first round. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he lasted until round two before losing to Clive Skilton. His next stop was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field, but he lost to Pat Dakin in the first round. On March 27, Frank was at Warner Robins for the NHRA Division 2 Opener. He finished runner-up to Lee Weller. Frank’s best NHRA national event times came at Seattle, where he qualified #2 at 5.830/238.72.

Notes: Frank started the season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. There he qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.42/221. He improved to 6.30/228 in the first round, beating Bill Pryor, who had crossed the centerline. Another 6.30 at 229 in round two stopped Jim Plummer, but in the semifinals, a good 6.32/229 lost to eventual winner Don Garlits. He was disappointed at Pomona, where he failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals. He did not run at the Bakersfield March Meet but was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he qualified #10 with a 6.12/243.90 (Top Speed of the Meet). A first-round 6.44/228 lost to the eventual winner Garlits' 6.16/238. He was at Green Valley for the second NHRA Division 4 race, where he finished runner-up to Gary Beck. Early in May, Frank went to Tulsa for the AHRA Springnationals. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with a 6.42, almost a tenth ahead of the #2 qualifier Garlits at 6.51. He opened eliminations with a 6.49/203.60 to beat Jim Ford, and a semifinal 6.43/220.58 stopped Marvin Graham's 6.55/214. He faced Garlits in the final, and Don had improved to a 6.41 in his semifinal win. Bradley had problems in the final and shut off to 14.03/96.52 while "Big Daddy" set Low ET and Top Speed with a winning 6.34/229. Frank won the third NHRA Division 4 race at Houston. There his final round 6.46/222.77 won when opponent Walt Barbin had a bad crash after his clutch exploded. Shortly after this, he went to St. Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. A 6.34/210.78 qualified #4, and another 6.34/213.78 beat Tim Baxter in the opening round. But a semifinal 6.39 lost to Jerry Ruth's 6.20. Bradley did really well at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, where, despite only qualifying #12, he beat Clayton Harris' 6.22/230 in the first round, with a 6.18/232.55. He got the jump on Connie Kalitta in round two, where his 6.26/225.00 held off Kalitta's slightly quicker 6.25/233. He improved to 6.16/234.37 in the semifinals to win over Garlits similar 6.16 at a motor-blowing 216. This put him into the final against Kelly Brown. Kelly had been consistent during eliminations, with all three of his runs being between 6.10 and 6.12, so Bradley would have to improve to win. Frank did improve, running his best of the weekend, a 6.05/238.09, but he lost to Brown's quick-leaving 6.09/238. Frank's best ET of the year was a #3 qualifying 5.969 at Sanair, and his 243.90 from Gainesville was his best speed.

Notes: Frank started the season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. He did pretty well, making it into the final before losing to Johnny Abbott. He failed to qualify at the first couple of NHRA events. Frank was the second alternate at the Gatornationals with a 6.16 best. He was at St. Louis at the beginning of June for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. A 6.18 qualified him third in the eight-car field. A first-round 6.34 beat Shirley Muldowney's 6.46 and in the semifinals, he beat Marvin Graham. This put him into the final against Don Garlits. The two had a good race, but Garlits' 6.23 nipped Bradley's 6.24 for the win. The following week, there were 30 Top fuel teams at Columbus attempting to qualify for the NHRA Springnationals. Bradley ran 5.99/238.09 to qualify #3. Unfortunately, in his first-round race against Steve Stephens, he lost a blower belt and slowed to 6.18/109.30, losing to Steve's 6.12/237. His next stop was at Alamo Dragway in San Antonio for the AHRA Nationals. There his 6.00 qualified #3, but once again Garlits had his number and in the semifinals Frank's 6.08 lost to "Big Daddy's" 5.93. It was then off to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Bradley qualified in the dreaded #9 spot with a 5.97/242.58 setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Dave Settles driving the "Blue Max" dragster. Settles dropped Bradley in their race. Another semifinal finish came at the end of July at Dragway 42 in West Salem for the AHRA Grandnationals. There, you guessed it, Garlits' 5.85 beat Bradley's 6.09 in their semifinal encounter. He did not make the trip to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals, choosing instead to run the AHRA Summernationals at Kansas City. A 6.17 qualified #3 and once again Garlits met Bradley in the semifinals and once again Garlits won. This time his 5.94 beat Frank's 6.07. At the next AHRA event, the World Finals held in August, Frank qualified poorly with a 6.16/226.70 setting up a first-round meeting with you know who and Garlits put Bradley on the trailer in the first round. Frank really ran well at Indy for the NHRA US. Nationals. Over 60 cars attempted to qualify for the 32-car field and Bradley's 5.85/238.72 got him the #3 spot in the field. He beat Dick LaHaie in the opening round before breaking and losing to Settles in round two. He continued to qualify well at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals where his 5.90/238.09 qualified #3. Tire shake did him in the first round, and he lost to Doug Kerhulas.

Notes: Frank started the '80 season at the AHRA Winternationals. It was an eight-car show, and he qualified #2 behind Connie Kalitta. He beat Johnny West in round one, and then Shirley Muldowney in the semifinals. In the final, he faced another tough opponent, Jeb Allen, but Bradley was more than up to the task, taking his first victory of the new year. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where a 5.864/237.46 qualified #3 for the show. Frank ran 5.92/227.27 in the opening round of eliminations to beat Junior Kaiser's 6.10/226. But his second round 6.12/220.58 fell to Richard Tharp's 6.05/243. He did not compete at the Bakersfield March Meet, but he was at Gainesville for the Gatornationals. A 5.97 qualified #6, but he lost to Allen in the second round. Frank qualified #6 again at the eight-car show at the Cajun Nationals with a 5.98/233.76, but he lost to Shirley Muldowney in the first round. On May 18, he was at Amarillo Dragway for the NHRA Division 4 race. He reached the final only to have his quicker and faster 6.10/231.69 lose to Kaiser's 6.16/224. A 6.06/226.70 qualified #13 at the NHRA Springnationals, but Shirley had his number as a first-round 6.08 by the lady beat his 6.10. Another first-round loss came at the AHRA Gateway Nationals, where he qualified #2 at 6.11/213.78. On June 29, he was at Alamo Dragway for the AHRA Nationals. A 6.19 qualified #5 in the eight-car show, but he met Don Garlits in the first round. Despite running a slightly quicker 6.12, he lost to Don's 6.13. Bradley qualified #9 at the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown, but a first-round 5.98/233.76 lost to the low qualifier Tharp who ran a 5.90/243. Dragway 42 hosted the AHRA Grandnationals on July 27, and Frank was there, qualifying #5 with a 6.03 in the eight-car show and setting up a first-round encounter with low qualifier Garlits. For the second AHRA race in a row, Don beat Frank in the first round. He managed to qualify #4 with a 5.85 at Spokane for the AHRA World Finals but was upset by Ernie Hall in the first round. Both smoked the tires, and Hall recovered first, running 6.22 to beat Frank's 6.26. At Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals, Frank qualified #8 in the 32-car field with a 5.88/235.60. Unfortunately, he broke a rear end in the first round, against Tony Ceraolo. At Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, he failed to qualify. He ran much better at Ontario Motor Speedway for the NHRA World Finals, where his 5.96/239.99 qualified #8. An opening round 5.90/235.60 beat John Kimble's 6.16/235, and in round two, his 5.97/237.46 took out Johnny Abbott's tire-smoker. He slowed to 6.02/240.00 in the semifinal, but it was still enough to cover Jerry Ruth's tire-blazing 7.61. He faced Shirley in the final, and as had been the case all season, the lady had a hex on him as her 5.95/241 got the victory over Frank's off-pace 6.46/204.09. He finished the NHRA season in tenth in the season-long points standings. Frank's 5.864 from Pomona was his best NHRA national event ET for 1980.

Notes: Frank debuted a new car that was 200 lbs lighter than his '80 car at Tucson for the opening event of '81, the AHRA Winternationals, but he lost to Jerry Ruth in the first round. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #11 with a 5.94/241.28 but once again lost in the first round. This time, Shirley Muldowney beat him with a 5.92/241 to Frank's 5.94/241. He then went to Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet and ran a 6.01/223.88 to qualify #8. Unfortunately, the race was rained out and ran the following week. Bradley was unable to stay as he had to go to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. There, a 5.84/245.23 qualified #9. He faced the task of meeting #1 qualifier Jeb Allen who had run an all-time best et of 5.62. Unfazed, Frank went out and ran a 5.79/243 to beat Allen's 5.80/248. It was a good race. In the second round, he slowed to a 6.04/241.93 and lost to Butch Osmon's 5.97/239. Bradley then qualified #7 in the eight-car field at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals, but due to another rain delay, he could not stay for eliminations, letting alternate Paul Romine into the show. He cracked the tough eight-car show in Atlanta on April 26 for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 5.87 earned him the #7 spot in the field. People like Gary Beck, Dick LaHaie, Richard Tharp, Connie Kalitta, Osmon, Mark Oswald, among others, were outside looking in. Unfortunately, Jody Smart beat him in the first round. Frank next went to Rockingham on May 3 for the IHRA Pro-Am. He qualified #6, but the front tires wouldn't stay down in the first round, and he lost to Oswald's 5.82/241. He attempted to qualify for the IHRA Springnationals at Bristol, but his best of 5.95 failed to make the show. Frank could not make the field again, this time on May 24, for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. The trend continued for the following two NHRA events. At the Springnationals on June 21, a 6.03/229.56 failed to get into the show. And on July 4, for the Mile High Nationals, a best of 6.23/227.27 could do no better than the seventh alternate. That all changed by the NHRA Summernationals, where a 5.86/240.64 (#10) got in easily. But a first-round 6.15/222.77 lost to Richard Tharp's 5.86/246. His next stop was at Dragway 42 for the AHRA Grandnationals. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field and made it into the final by beating Don Garlits in the semifinals. In the final, he lost to Muldowney. Frank did not follow the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals. At the NHRA US Nationals, a 5.78 got him into the show (#14), but he tossed a blower belt in the first round, and lost to David Pace. He ran even quicker at Fremont on October 4 when his 5.759/237.46 qualified #6 at the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals. A first-round 5.86/237.46 beat Jim Barnard, but a 5.98/227.27 in the second round was no match for Connie Kalitta's 5.76/240. He ended the season by running a stout 5.77/231.36 to qualify #7 at the NHRA World Finals. He lost a first-round clash against Lucille Lee with her 5.95/240 beating his quicker 5.94/227.54. Photo from Indy 1981. Did Frank go 5.75 at a Division 7 event at Fremont on 4/12/81?

Notes: Frank qualified #5 at the season-opening AHRA Winternationals. He ran an off pace 6.49 in the first round, that lost to Don Garlits' 5.94. He blew a motor in qualifying, and a best of 5.97/238.09 failed to qualify at the NHRA Winternationals in February. He ran at OCIR for the NHRA Division 6 race on March 28, and while he was unable to make the finals, he did walk away with Low ET at 5.80. Frank qualified last in the eight-car field at Tulsa on May 2 for the AHRA Springnationals. In the first round, he beat Chris Karamesines 6.25/227 with a Low ET of the meet 6.15/233.16. In the semis, he lost a close race to Garlits. Frank's 6.25/230.17 lost to Don's 6.24/237.46. During this time, he was skipping over many of the NHRA meets, not running the Gatornationals, Southern Nationals, and the Cajun Nationals. Early in June, he set a 5.82 track record in qualifying #1 at St. Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. He beat Dick LaHaie in the first round, with a 6.19 before losing to Garlits' 5.89/243 in the semis with a 6.22/212.77. He qualified #1 again at the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.775/234.98. He lasted until the second round when he shut off to a 6.45 against the eventual winner Shirley Muldowney's 5.83/227. He lost early at Kansas City for the AHRA Summernationals. There, Jerry Ruth beat him in the first round. Frank's best times were a #3 qualifying effort at Indy at 5.633/249.30. | 5.89 253 AHRA US 30 1982 (Winner) in the first round beating Fred Snavely, Beat Dick LaHaie in the semis with 5.865 241 and beat Don Garlits in the finals with a holeshot 5.877 259.59 to 5.860 260.79. Notes: Frank started the '83 season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. There was no traction on the track, and Frank's 7.45 actually qualified #7 in the eight-car show. He lost early. Traction wasn't a problem at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals in February. A 5.851/230.17 qualified #10, but he lost to Jody Smart in the first round, 6.34/245 to 8.70/108. In May, he was at Tulsa for the AHRA Springnationals, where he ran a 6.49 to qualify #3. He beat George Tolon in the first round, but in the semifinals, his 6.36/214.28 lost to Don Garlits' 6.02/234. St. Louis was the next stop on the AHRA trail for the Gateway Nationals. Bradley qualified #5 there with a 5.96/225.01, but in the first round, Jerry Ruth's 5.93/240 beat his 6.12/220.59. On August 1, he was in Kansas City for the AHRA Summernationals. Frank qualified #3 with a 5.84/226.13, but his car broke in the first round. He took a big win at the AHRA Grandnationals at Dragway 42, beating Garlits in the final, where both drivers ran 5.86. Another win came when he won the AHRA World Finals at Spokane. Bradley qualified #1 with a questionable 5.55 (Low ET). In the first round, he beat Danny Danell with a 5.79, and in the semifinals, he advanced when Dwight Salisbury broke in Gaines Markley's car. In the final, he ran the second qualifier, Tolon. Frank took the victory with a 5.92/241.93 over George's 6.04/221. He attempted to qualify at OCIR for the NHRA World Finals in October, but his best of 5.825/248.61 was good for the first alternate.

Notes: Bradley started his season at Tucson in mid-January for the AHRA Winternationals. His 5.95 qualified second to Jerry Ruth's 5.88. In the opening round, his 5.96 beat Chris Karamesines' late 5.90. In the semi-final, he lost to Gene Snow. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, Frank's 5.73/250.69 qualified #10. In the first round, Larry Minor's 5.40/248 defeated his 6.01/221.12. He did not compete at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals or Atlanta and Baton Rouge. He was at Tulsa for the AHRA Springnationals. The AHRA shows were all eight-car fields at this time, and he qualified #5 at 6.10/233. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Ruth. Bradley improved to 6.00/238 to upset Ruth's 6.07/225. In the semi-final, he lost to eventual winner Don Garlits' 5.94/236, which beat his off-pace,6.21/221. Shortly after that, he was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. A great 5.64/242.24 qualified #3. But he slowed to 6.00/211.76 in round one and lost to Karamesines' 5.86/193. He then went to St. Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. He qualified #4, and in round one, his 5.95/238 took out Dale Wilch's 6.25/218. He then set Low ET in the semi-final with a 5.76/236 over Dick Lahaie's 5.92/240. He faced Snow in the final, and Bradley smoked the tires to 6.02/231.37 in a runner-up finish to Gene's 5.89/240. He did not compete at the NHRA Grandnationals, but on July 8, he won the AHRA Grand American at US 30, Gary, Indiana. Three cars had qualified at 5.57, and Bradley's was good for the #3 spot on the qualifying chart. In the first round, his 5.58/252.39 beat Jack Ostrander. Karamesines fouled against him in the semi-final, and Bradley stormed to 5.53/255.31. The ET was a new AHRA record. He went up against Garlits in the final, and Frank was more than up to the task, as his 5.60/254.59 got the victory over Garlis' 6.13/175. The following week, he won again, taking the top honors at the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown. Once again, he ran 5.57 (at 252.32) to qualify #3. He made only one qualifying run as only 12 cars had shown for what was supposed to be a 16-car field. He then took out Snow in round one with a 5.52, and in round two, his 5.66 beat Gary Ormsby's quicker 5.62. Gary Beck fouled against him in the semi-finals, and Bradley advanced with a 5.62. He faced low qualifier Joe Amato in the final, and Joe was the favorite to win based on performance. Bradley's car was the only one in the field running a Milodon engine and a conventional Spring-type clutch. But the two had a great race that came down to the wire, with Frank's 5.569/251.39 stealing the win from Amato's 5.57/249. The week after (July 22), he continued to show that he was for real. He was at West Salem's Dragway 42 for the ADRA Grandnationals. Only six cars had shown, and he qualified #3 at 5.6. He beat Ostrander in the first round before setting Low ET and Top Speed in the semi-finals at 5.62/253.52. Unfortunately, he was late off the line and, despite running so well, lost to Snow's 5.73/241. His next stop was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. He qualified #7 for the eight-car field with a 5.77/237.46. In the semi-final, he beat Ormsby in round one before losing to eventual winner Connie Kalitta. In August, he was at Spokane for the ADRA World Finals. He lasted until the semi-final before losing to Karamesines. There were 24 TF cars at Indy attempting to qualify. Bradley managed to qualify #8 with a 5.65/250.69. In round one, he beat alternate Grant Stoms. In the second round, his 5.89 fell to Kalitta's 5.72. Frank's best NHRA times of the year were at the Summernationals at 5.569/254.95. Frank had a good NHRA season, but those were his best times and finish. Only six cars showed at the ADRA Grandnationals at Dragway 42, OH, Bradley qualifying 3rd at 5.70/246. In semis, lost to eventual winner Gene Snow's 5.73/241 holeshot despite setting Low ET and Top Speed of Meet with a losing 5.67/253.52.

He lost to Bill Mullins in the first round. The next show was the Gatornationals in March. He qualified #14 with a 6.02/237.59. A first-round 5.84/251.95 beat Chris Karamesines, but he lost a blower in round two and the race to Gary Ormsby. He did not attend the NHRA Southern Nationals or the Bakersfield March Meet, but he was at Firebird Raceway on May 11 for a best-of-three-match race against Dennis Taylor driving Dave Braskett's car. Frank won two straight with times of 5.84/232.55 and 5.74/237.46. He did not race at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, but at the Springnationals, a 5.74/242.06 qualified #10. A first-round 5.73/246.98 lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.65/251. He went to Canada for the Grandnationals, where he qualified #6 in the eight-car field with a 5.60/249.58. Notes: Frank started the year at the NHRA Winternats, where a 5.565/252.80 qualified eighth. He ran a first-round 5.606/249.30 over Larry Minor but a second-round 5.574/247.93 lost to Darrell Gwynn's 5.49/258.62. Frank didn't attend the following few NHRA events but was back in Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A 5.675/242.98 qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field, but a 5.731/242.13 lost to Gary Beck's 5.63/250 in the first round. A best of 5.928/231.89 failed to qualify (third alternate) at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Bradley didn't go up north for the NHRA Grandnationals or race any other events until the World Finals, where he was the third alternate at 5.728/254.23. Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from The Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. I think these were AHRA times.

Notes: Frank was at Firebird for the Super Bowl of Drag Racing event. He only made one tire-smoking, shut off 19.51 pass. Obviously, he failed to qualify. He then went to Pomona, where he showed how well he could drive. On a qualifying attempt, he broke a wing strut. He handled the car perfectly and brought it to a safe stop. For a lesser driver, it could have gone a lot worse. He repaired it and came back out to run a career-best 5.50/257.43 to qualify #10. Unfortunately, he had problems in the first round against Gene Snow and shut off to 6.07/165.68. He was the first alternate at the NHRA Gatornationals with a best of 5.59/258.99, and a 5.69/253.09 was the second alternate at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He went to Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, where a first-round 5.78/249.30 beat Snow, but he lost to Darrell Gwynn in the semifinals. Frank did not race at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet, but he went to Tulsa for its independent Springnationals. He qualified #1 in the eight-car field with a 5.61 (Low ET) at 255.68 (Top Speed and a new track record). He and Dan Pastorini had a good race in round one, with Frank's 5.69/249.30 beating Pastorini's 5.75/250. Another close race followed in the semifinals, where Bradley's 5.77/213.27 beat Eddie Hill's 5.80/252. This put Frank into the final against Snow. Bradley got the victory with a consistent 5.63/252.80 over the "Snowman's" tire-smoking 6.88/122. At the NHRA Cajun Nationals at Baton Rouge, Frank ran 5.57/254.61 to qualify #9. He improved to a new career-best 5.46 at 263.00 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Joe Amato's 5.34/275. The next stop on the NHRA tour was Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Frank's 5.48/251.81 qualified #5. A first-round 5.60/219.94 beat Earl Whiting, but a 5.61/218.34 in the second round lost to eventual winner Dick LaHaie's 5.38/262. He followed the NHRA Tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where a 5.56/262.31 qualified #7. He beat Don Garlits in the first round but broke and rear end doing it and was unable to fix it in time for round two. Shortly after that, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. His 5.44 qualified #8, and he ran 5.49/261.02 to defeat John Carey's 5.73/199 in the opening round. He ran his best time of the weekend in round two, a 5.42/261.70, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Darrell Gwynn's 5.38/264. His next stop was at Kansas City International for its Summernationals race. It was an eight-car field, and Bradley's 5.59 qualified #4He beat Ray Moats in the first round with a 5.61/263.15, and in the semi-final, both he and Snow ran 5.64 (Frank at 264.70), with the "win" light coming on in his lane. He faced Dan Pastorini in the final, and Frank's 5.57/261 got the victory over Dan's 5.64/247. Near the end of July, he went to Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals. There he qualified #7 at 5.58/253.37. Most importantly, he made his first NHRA national event final since '84. In round one, Glenn Mikres 5.73/233 lost to Frank's 5.66/249.93. He then beat Bill Mullins' 5.80/233 in round two with a 5.65/248.41. He had a very close race against low qualifier Dick Lahaie in the semi-final. Dick smoked the tires but still ran 5.61/250 and lost to Frank's 5.62/249.03. He faced Amato in the final, and this time Bradley smoked the tires. His 5.71/246.17 finished runner-up to Joe's 5.47/251. He continued to lower his career-best, and it now dropped down to 5.36 at Brainerd. His 5.36/261.09 qualified #5 for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. In the first round, he ran 5.47/257.28 over Connie Kalitta's 5.60/255. Unfortunately, in round two, a 5.44/259.89 fell to Shirley Muldowney's 5.38/270.30 cars were attempting to qualify at Indy, and Bradley's 5.34/269.46 qualified #6. Jack Ostrander was late off the line in the first round, and his 5.41/271 lost to Frank's 5.42/265.56. In round two, he ran a great 5.39/266.42 and lost to Amato's even better 5.37/273. At the Gatornationals, Bradley qualified #3 with a 5.16 at an NHRA National record of 286.71. A first-round 5.17/284.99 beat Richard Holcomb, and in round two, a 5.24/275 beat Bill Mullins. Notes: Frank had one of his better seasons in '89. He had been one of the first to run a 300-inch wheelbase car back at the beginning of '88, and he retained the Uyehara-built car for '89. The only difference was that he planned on elevating the JP-1 engine slightly. He may not have won many races, but he qualified strong everywhere he raced. It showed in the points standings when he finished the year seventh overall in NHRA. He started the year by qualifying in the dreaded #9 spot at the Winternationals with a 5.15/277.52. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Joe Amato. Frank didn't let it bother him as he beat Joe with a 5.14/277.00. In the second round, he beat Darrell Gwynn, and in the semifinals, a 5.18/275.73 beat Frank Hawley. In the final, he met Gary Ormsby, and Frank fell off to a 5.28/260 that lost to Gary's strong 5.06/278. At the Gatornationals, he qualified #3, but a first-round 5.19 lost to Jim Head's 5.18. The next NHRA event was the Southern Nationals. A 5.20/274.47 qualified #9. A first-round 5.23/277.00 lost to low qualifier Dick LaHaie's 5.15/282. At the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis, Frank used a 5.07/285.63 to qualify #5. He beat Rudy Toepke in the first round, before losing to Ormsby's 5.06/286 in the second round with a 5.10. Race six of the year was the Cajun Nationals. A 5.17/278.20 qualified #5. In the first round, he beat Richard Holcomb, but in round two, he was caught napping by LaHaie, and Dick's 5.22 beat Frank's 5.19. The next race was the Springnationals at National Trail. Once again, Bradley qualified strong running a 5.06/284.18 for the #3 spot. He was upset in the first round, by Lori Johns. Frank got his first pole of the season at the Grandnationals, where a 5.12/282.39 (Top Speed) gave him the spot. In the first round, he beat Gene Snow with a 5.17/280.89. In round two, he lost to LaHaie's 5.13/282 with a 5.17/279.93. He took his second pole of the season at the next race, the Summernationals. This time, a 5.07/285.08 gave him the position. Unfortunately, Ormsby qualified poorly, and the two met in the first round, with Gary getting the win. Frank didn't run so well in the thin air of Denver for the Mile High Nationals. A 5.73/211.31 just made the bump. He lost to Darrell Gwynn in the first round. He went from last to first in qualifying when the tour hit Sonoma for the California Nationals. A 5.04/286.80 gave him his third pole. He got one back from Gwynn when he beat him in the first round, with a 5.06/285.08 to Darrell's 5.16/281. A 5.08/280.46 beat a tire-smoking Mike Brotherton in the second round. In the semifinal, a 5.10/282.04 beat Gordie Bonin. He beat Joe Amato in the final for his only win of the year. He came close to scoring another pole at the next event, the Seafair Nationals at Seattle, but his 5.05/284.36 just missed Amato's 5.03 for the #1 spot. Frank beat Johns' 5.15/274 in the first round, with a 5.12/284.72. But a 5.19/278.72 lost to LaHaie's 5.10/282 in the second round. At the Northstar Nationals, a 5.22/273.72 qualified Bradley #7. Both he and Amato ran 5.14's in the first round, with Joe getting there first. The next race was the US Nationals at Indy. Bradley qualified #10 with a 5.14 but lost to Eddie Hill in the first round. It was then on to Maple Grove for the Keystone Nationals. A 5.20/274.13 qualified #12. In the first round, he ran a career-best (to this point) 5.02 at 281.60 over a broken Dennis Forcelle. He lasted until the second round, where his 5.08/271 lost to Hill's 5.02/285. At the Texas Motorplex for the Chief Auto Parts Nationals, Bradley qualified #9. A first-round 5.012/286.53 lost to low qualifier Ormsby's 4.92/294. Frank became the tenth member of the Cragar 4-Second Club on October 25, 1989, at Pomona, Calif. Photo from Columbus 1989.

Notes: AKA Henchman. This was originally the Dekker-Muelling Camaro. It also ran as BB/A and AAFA. Leo Rancours ran the car in the 1970s or 80s. The car still exists! Kevin Stevens runs it. Jack ran at the Rocky Mountain Funny Car Championships on July 20 at Continental Divide Raceway. Unfortunately, his first-round 8.89/170.77 lost to Bryan Teal's 8.49/160.42. The listed times are from Thunder Road, July 1969. Was this a hemi or a Chevy?

Notes: Running mostly at Colton, his home track, Bradley was a frequent X Class winner with his four-barrel engined dragster. In his first outing of the season, he turned 76.59 mph. On Feb. 6, he turned 70.31 mph. He may have been running on gas at those races. On May 8, running on fuel at Pomona, he turned 87.89 mph. From at least that point on, he ran on fuel. On May 22 at Colton, he turned 98.57 mph. The following week at Colton, he set a new strip record with 105.63 mph. At that point, he was really off and running. On June 5 at Colton, he set another new strip record with 109 mph. On June 26, it was another new strip record with 111.94 mph at Colton. At Pomona, on July 4, he turned 110.97 mph. Back at Colton on Aug. 13, he turned 114.21 mph. It seemed that every week he just went faster and faster. On October 30, he installed a new engine that put him into the Open Gas class and turned 119 mph at Colton. On Nov. 6 at Colton, he turned 118 mph in Open Gas. Notes: During the '56 season, he raced at Pomona, Santa Ana, Lions, and mainly at Colton, his home track. During the season, he racked up 28 Top Eliminator wins. He raced in what was called Open Gas to open the season at Colton on Jan. 15 with 118.32 mph. Early in the season, he switched over to running on fuel. On Feb. 5 at Colton, he beat Dudley Stauffacher driving the belly tank B & B Construction dragster in a match race. Bradley clocked a best of 122.75 mph. In losing, Dud Stauffacher had to ride a kid's bike the length of the strip as part of the match race requirements. Each week, Bradley made little improvements to better his times. On Feb. 26 at Colton, he turned 126.13 mph. On Apr. 8, he clocked 127.93 mph. On July 1, he turned 135.58 mph. He followed that up a week later with a TE victory and a new Colton track record 136.88 mph. A week later, he claimed another TE win at Pomona with 135.32 mph. On Aug. 26 at Santa Ana, he turned 10.33 at 136.30 mph. At Lions on Sep. 3, he turned 10.41 at 135.85 mph. Back at his home track on Oct. 14, he grabbed another TE win with 138.40 mph. A week later, he garnered another TE victory at 10.26 with 140.62 mph. And then again at Colton on Nov. 4, he took another TE win coupled with a 141. 28 mph clocking. The wins just kept coming. On Nov. 11, he clocked 141.42 mph en route to another win. On Dec. 6 at Santa Ana, he garnered his 28th Top Eliminator win of the season and set a world record for flathead dragsters with 145.46 mph. Notes: Bradley won at San Fernando on February 10. His final round 137.82 beat Ted Worobieff's Chrysler. Flathead Injected, Won 26 T E. races.; John Bradley, called "Mr. Flathead" because he drove the "World's Fastest Flathead Dragster," drove primarily in fuel classes but occasionally ran on gas in his new dragster in '57. He also ran both with and without a blower. When he ran with a blower, it upped him into an OHV category. Like in '56, he took many TE victories in '57. He also raced at more distant strips than he had done in 1956, e.g., Bakersfield, Half Moon Bay, and at Cordova's World Series of Drag Racing event in Illinois in Aug. At that distant event, he set a new record for flathead dragsters on the opening day of 147.30 mph. On the second day, he broke that record with 147.54 mph. In the latter part of the year, he set a world record for flathead dragsters at Bakersfield of 9.51 at 147.54 mph. On September 8, running on gas at San Fernando, he took Top Eliminator with 10.91 at 124.48 mph. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: On various occasions and for different reasons, Bradley ran in several different classes, including B/D, B/FD, and D/FD, but mainly in A/FD. As in his previous three seasons, he was a frequent Top Eliminator and class winner. As he did in the previous season, he towed his dragster to even more different and far away strips. He ran at Bakersfield, Holtville, Half Moon Bay, and the World Series of Drag Racing event at Cordova, Illinois, for a second year. But mostly, he raced at Colton, his home track. At Colton on Feb. 23, he took TE and twice tied his world record for flathead dragsters with 147.54 mph. He also set a new track record at that race with 9.87. On Dec. 21 at Colton, he set a B/FD world record with a 9.90 clocking. At Cordova, he set a new world record for flathead dragsters of 151.26 mph with a 9.86 time. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB

Notes: Flathead Injected, Won 26 T E. races.; Bradley had an offer in late 1958 from a Kansas racer to purchase his dragster, but that offer fell through, so Bradley continued racing the flathead dragster on into 1959. He primarily raced in C/FD during the season, but he also ran it in D/FD at Pomona. He was plagued by a string of blown engines in the first half of the season. When he got that problem resolved, he started on a string of TE victories at Colton that lasted for fourteen straight victories. In late August, Colton began experimenting with 3/16th-mile drag racing, continuing that into November. On Sep. 7, Bradley set a world record for 3/16th-mile with a time of 8.05. He broke that record on Nov. 15 with a clocking of 8.00. He switched out his flathead Merc for a Chrysler engine in late November. Photo: George Klass Collection - MB
