Notes: A convoluted story ! Unfortunately, this is the car that crashed at OCIR during a match race with Doug Rose in "The Green Mamba" at the Division 7 Points Race in May of the same year. Simultaneously I leased a (not so desirable) jet car from Jim Deist and named it "Wildfire II", and was hired by Wayne Knuth to drive The "Odyssey" Jet Dragster on the east coast. (Tony Schumacher got his high speed driving experience in Wayne's "Odyssey" Jet Dragster prior to his Dad putting him in the Top Fuel car) I ran the Wildfire II car on the west coast and The Odyssey on the easy coast for the rest of the year. A few weekends I drove both cars, catching the red eye at LAX after racing and then Wayne would pick me up at an airport back east and we would woosh off to a drag strip. The year capped off with "The Jet and Rocket World Finals" at OCIR in December. I had both Wildfire and Odyssey booked into the 8 car show for that one. For all 3 rounds I would have to be in the first pair and the last pair. After I would get out of the first car in the shut off area, Larry Sutton would pick me up on his motorcycle, zoom me back to the starting line where I would strap into the second jet, and off we would go again. Too much fun ! Immediately after that, race, I purchased the Odyssey from Wayne, renamed it "Wildfire III": and we shipped my car off for my first tour of New Zealand. Whew ! Doug Brown
