Notes: Bunny ran 6.15/226.81 to qualify #4 at IHRA Darlington on March 13 for the Winternationals. In round one, Carol's 6.21/226.81 beat Bruce Petersen's off-pace 8.26/115. Tim Slagle also had problems against her in round two, and she advanced with a 6.17/225.67. The eventual winner, Mark Thomas, ran 6.08/227 in the semi-final to beat her 6.24/224.49. At Englishtown in May, her 6.18/228.71 qualified #14 for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. A 6.30/225.90 in the opening round beat Chuck Cheeseman's 6.41/229. In round two, Frank Madden's 6.55/213 fell to Burkett's 6.38/223.04. Eventual winner Bob Newberry's 6.09/233 stopped her 6.33/224.10 in the semi-final. Notes: On Sunday, October 2, 2006, Bunny Burkett made her debut run at Maryland Int'l Raceway for the Ford Fever Classic, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Following a double mastectomy surgery in September for two types of breast cancer, this courageous woman piloted her brand new 2006 Dodge Avenger Top Alcohol Funny Car down the MIR quarter-mile on the car’s very first pass, shocking everyone as she pitched a 5.99 ET on the scoreboards at 240 mph. It was definitely a touching moment for everyone there at the event, from the fans to the racers to the staff. This courageous woman has been through it all. And after such a life-changing operation, she steps back up to the plate to play the game better than ever.
