Notes: Was this an entirely new car or the Corvette rebodied? | Debuted the Dodge Daytona body in the 2nd half of 1990. Won the 1990 Polaroid US All Pro Funny Car Championships at Englishtown after running 6.19/226 in Round 1 over Rich Lagno's 7.02/198, then defeating Dick Bell in the final with a 6.21 to Bell's 6.29. Len's first NHRA National Event with the car was the US Nationals where his 6.182/226.18 was good enough for 6th Alternate. He then went to Maple Grove for the NHRA Sunoco Keystone Nationals where he qualied #6 with a 6.076/226.47. In round 1 Len would face #11 Qualifier Bunny Burkett, Capone would win on a holeshot with a 6.151/225.73 to Burkett's losing 6.127/230.65. Len in Round 2 would face #3 qualifier Pat Austin where Len pulled off an upset over the former World Champion with a 6.185//226.07 after Austin had a mid-track wheelstand & was forced to lift. Len would move on to the semi finals to face #2 Qualifier Stan Sipos. Unfortunately Capone's best run of eliminations 6.113/226.07 was no match for the Eventual Runner Up Sipos's 5.956/234.49. Any additional Info ET/mph Len ran with this car would be appreciated - Rob McCabe |

Notes: Len qualified #15 at Englishtown in May for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. A 6.20/225.79 got him the spot. He fouled away a 6.37/223.82 in the first round against Bob Newberry. He had to take the chance as Newberry advanced with a 6.15/234 and went on to win. Capone qualified on the "bump" at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals with a 6.20/225.67. In the first round, the car broke against low qualifier Randy Anderson. Len was the first alternate at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals with a 6.14/227.84. Jim Lape qualified but could not run in eliminations, so Capone took his place in the field. In the opening round, his 6.19/224.55 fell to Tim Slagle's 6.08/232. |

Notes: Wheeler Dealer was a speed shop. Wayne Watson and I were bringing in mag wheels. Tried to convince auto dealers to help us do mag wheels, but replacing OEM wheels with mags for better sales. Eventually did open some speed shops. - Terry Capp, Racin & Rockin Radio, 5/04/15 |

Notes: New Ron Dixon FED in 1969. Went down to KB's shop to look at new hemis. But Charlie Allen said he had a brand new injector to pan 426 he would sell them. So they bought it and bolted it into the FED. The next weekend at Saskatoon, we ran 242 and set the track record. Folks thought it was a bogus time. But then we ran went to SIR and went 245 or 246 Doner's track. For a time, we were the fastest front engine dragster in the world. - Terry Capp, Racin & Rockin Radio, 5/04/15 |

Notes: Here's how we bought the Woody RED car. Van Duesen's family owned the 'House of Coin' - a gambling supply shop. Wes did a little skimming of the profits by tossing quarters into a 55-gallon nitro barrel. By the way, a nitro drum full of quarters is worth $17000! We used that to buy the woody car. - Terry Capp, Racin & Rockin Radio, 5/04/15 |

Notes: Early in August, Capp was in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 6.390/208.81 qualified #7. His tire-smoking 6.50 in the first round lost to Jeb Allen's 6.42. Shortly after, he was at Mission Raceways for the NHRA Division 6 race. Once again, he smoked the tires in the opening round and lost to eventual winner Jerry Ruth. Eighty-five cars showed up at Indy to try to qualify for the 32-car field, and Terry qualified #15 with a 6.26/233.16. A 6.33 in the opening round beat Jack Mitchell's 6.71, but he lost fire against Hank Johnson in round two. Things took a turn for the worse. He was towing the dragster from Indy to Edmonton when a torsion bar snapped. The weight shifted in the trailer, and he went over an 8-foot bank. Capp and his crew were ok, but the trailer suffered severe damage. |

Notes: Capp attempted to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but a blown engine kept him from making the show. Terry was at Bremerton for the NHRA Division 6 Opener in May. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show forcing him to run low qualifier Herm Petersen in round one. Capp lost to the hard-charging Petersen. He was at Seattle for the Northwest Open, but a 6.43/231.96 lost to eventual winner Gary Beck's 5.95/236 in the first round. His next stop was at Spokane for the AHRA Springnationals, but he again lost in round one. Only five Top Fuel cars showed up at Mission Raceway for the second Division 6 race, and Terry had one of them. His opening round 6.55/223.88 advanced, but in the semifinals, his 6.51/223.88 lost to Petersen's 6.44/216. Herm would go on to win this one as well. At the NHRA Grandnationals, Terry's 6.35/236.22 qualified #8. A first-round 6.52 beat Tony Ceraolo, and he had an easy second round when Paul Longenecker went into a wheelstand and shut off. His race ended in the semifinals, where a 6.36/235.60 lost to Dave Settles' 6.21/234 in the "Candies and Hughes" car. He then went to Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships. A 6.31 qualified #12, and an improved 6.29 lost to Don Garlits' 6.22 in the opening round. | We are listing Terry Capp's 6.24 from the PRO event at NYNS, although he does not appear in the race reports from that event. Per December SSDI magazine: "Canadian Top Fuel pilot Terry Capp suffered an ordeal in which he was ejected from the race under questionable circumstances after repeated disputes with track manager and race director Ed Eaton." Per Ed Eaton in the same issue: "A few more decisions were reversed Saturday night after the race was called, and one, in particular, involving a Top Fuel car which had taken a run on the starting system on Friday and his time was disallowed. This decision was made by the PRO official observer in the Tower and myself. However, the ruling was changed and the driver's time allowed to count and his time slip signed by a PRO officer, despite the objections of myself, the PRO Tower observer, and another PRO officer." [I'm assuming Terry is the racer in question. - BP] | Terry ran 6.293/236.84 at Indianapolis Raceway Park US Nationals. |

Notes: Times and info from National Dragster, 6/27/75. Capp was at Edmonton, Alberta, on July 30 for the Funny Car Spectacular event. It was a 24 car show that had all cars make two passes. Capp did not have a good outing. In his first race, a 6.92/195 lost to Al Bergler's 6.85/186. In his second race, he lost to Dale Pulde, and in the third, he smoked the tires and lost to Norm Wilcox, who was driving the "Hawaiian." |

In the opening round of eliminations, his 6.19/236.13 fell to Gary Read's 5.89/239. Shortly after that, he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where once again, he failed to qualify. Qualified #11 at Indy and went to the semis. Ran other NHRA events as well, but Indy times were his bests. Photo from the 1975 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. |

Notes: Terry ran 7.12/155.44 at Seattle, WA 5/09/76. He was at Portland in August for the NHRA Division 6 race. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 6.82, and in the opening round, his 7.06/160.14 beat Mike Miller who got out of shape. He ran a strong 6.42/208.33 in the semifinal, but it wasn't enough to beat eventual winner Gordie Bonin's 6.33/212. |

Notes: R/U to Bonin in sharp, gray primer and ET mags at the 4/3 Opener, 6.40 to 10.78. I think it was Chicago Style, so they ran better than that in the first 2 rounds. June WCS, 2nd Round (Bonin) August 64FCs. My vet father said, "They must be Canadian, 3-cornered hats." - Joe Moore |
