Notes: Jim Brissette car listed at 7.57/205 best in Herbert Cams ad. Confirm that it was this car and driver. | Bill started the year driving for Jim Brissette and on January 1 the team was at Riverside for the KFWB Drag Festival where Bill qualified in the eight-car field with a 7.90/199.54. Unfortunately, in the first round, he fouled away a 7.92/194.38 against Bobby Tapia. On January 3, they were at Fontana for the UDRA race, but this time Bill lost fire in the first round. Pomona held an eight-car show on January 17 and Alexander qualified with a 7.99/200.44, but he was having clutch issues and withdrew from competition. A whopping 31 cars showed up to qualify for eight positions at Lions on January 30. Bill ran 7.71/186.32 to qualify #2. He stayed strong in eliminations, running 7.88/197.80 in the first round, and 8.01/189.06 in the semifinals when Zane Schubert fouled, but in the final, his off pace 8.42/182.18 finished runner-up to Ed Pink's "Old Master" driven by Mike Snively at 8.21. Both cars smoked the tires in the final. Bill ran a best of 8.02/200.00 in attempting to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he just missed making the show. He got a break when Ron Rivero had hurt his motor in qualifying and Alexander replaced him in the field. He almost went all the way. Bill got to the final when every car he raced fouled against him. In the first two rounds, it was first Tom McEwen and then Don Garlits who both saw red, and then in the semifinals, Connie Kalitta also fouled out against him. In the final, he ran 7.92/198.22, but lost to Don Prudhomme's 7.76/201 in the "Hawaiian."

Notes: Bill was at Lions on June 29 for an eight-car show. He qualified #1 with a 7.11/212.26, and in the opening round of eliminations, he and Wayne King had a tire-smoking match. Bill's 7.74/213.76 came out on top over Wayne's 7.58/217. Unfortunately, Alexander fouled in the semifinal against eventual winner Jess Sturgeon. Alexander was at OCIR for its Nitro Championships on July 6. It was a sixteen-car field, and his 7.32 qualified #6. Unfortunately, he lost in the opening round of eliminations. Bill made his first six-second run in this car at the PDA Championships at Lions on July 20. His 6.99/216.34 qualified #13 in the sixteen-car field. Unfortunately, the car lost fire on the line in the first round, giving Tom Larkin a single. The team was at Irwindale on August 3 for the Gold Cup Championships. Bill ran a 7.46/199.54 in the first round, that finished second best to Frank Rupert's 7.35/203. Shortly after that, the team was at Fremont for its Fuel Championships. He beat Don Argee's 7.50/196 in the first round, with a 7.24/196.05, but he fouled away a 7.21 in round two against Stan Shiroma, who advanced with a 7.14.

Notes: Alexander ran really well at Irwindale on May 23 for the NHRA Division 7 race. He ran an easy 8.30/146.57 in the first round, when Ron Hampshire fouled against him. His 6.90/200.00 beat a tire-smoking Dwight Salisbury in round two, and a semifinal 6.99/219.50 took out James Warren, who shut down early. In the final, he faced Jim Davis, and Bill got a little over-anxious and fouled. The following week (May 31), he was at Fremont for an eight-car show. His 6.86 qualified #3. Dennis Baca fouled against him in the first round, and he advanced easily, but a blown rear end took him out in his semifinal race against Bob Hightower. Bill was at OCIR on July 25 for the 32-car show PDA Championships. He advanced past the first-round with a 6.93/217.91, and he only needed a 9.34 in the second round when opponent Frank Bradley fouled. In the third round, his 6.80/221.67 lost to eventual winner Steve Carbone's 6.75/223. At the NHRA Supernationals, Bill qualified #15 in the 32-car field with a 6.836. He lasted until round three, where he smoked the tires to a 7.02 that lost to Gerry Glenn's 6.92. Bill's best NHRA national event times were 6.743/212.76 at the NHRA Supernationals at Ontario. | Per Steve Reyes: Being confined to a wheelchair didn't stop Bill Wishart from achieving his dream of owning an AA/FD. With the help of chassis builder Pete Ogden and engine builder/crew chief Bob Sbarboro they made it happen for Wishart. A gunshot wound to his back when he was a kid, put Bill in a wheelchair for life. Never did he lose his dream of owning a race car...Bill made it happen. - JM
