Notes: He started the season running his inline Buick 8 motor in B/SR but switched over to a blown Chrysler in August as he planned on going to the Nationals in Kansas City and running in A/SR. Research could not confirm if he went to the Nationals. Research could also not find out if the 61-year-old Cassedy did all his own driving. Bob Rector was his driver in 1955. He was almost a weekly class winner in both B/SR and A/SR at most of the Southland drag strips, including Pomona, Paradis Mesa, San Gabriel Valley, Lions, Colton, and Santa Ana. His first outing in Southern California with the blown Chrysler was at Santa Ana in the AOH roadster class, where he clocked 108.89 mph. Notes: Jim Cassidy began the season slowly, but by mid-season, he had a lock on any SoCal strip he raced on. Many times, he set and then reset the strip record. He spent a lot of time at Lions Drag Strip, winning the A/SR class on Jan. 19 (12.18 at 113.20 mph), Mar. 23 (87.94 mph), Apr. 13 (13.03 at 109.82 mph), May 18 (12.25 at 118.89 mph), May 24/25 (12.54 at 116.12 mph), May 31 (12.75 at 119.84 mph), June 14 (96.15 mph), July 5 (12.74 at 114.35 mph), July 12 (12.41 at 118.57 mph), July 19 (12.42 at 116.42 mph), and July 26 (12.31 at 118.73 mph). He took a few A/SR wins at Pomona on Jan. 12 (11.84 at 113.94 mph), July 6 (12.36 at 113.92 mph), and Aug. 18 (11.82 at 119.84 mph). He had his share of wins at Santa Ana, too. He won on May 11 (12.31 at 114.51 mph), Aug. 24 (12.55, N.T.), Nov. 16 (strip records of 11.90 at 120.00 mph), Nov. 23 (12.20 at a strip record 120.81 mph)Dec. 21 (12.37 at 118.42 mph).
