Notes: Dick ran a career-best of 5.94 (to this point) at the NHRA Division 1 race at Maple Grove in August. The run was made in the semifinals while losing to Bob Hilton's slower 5.95. Allard's speed on the run was 217.39. On August 9, he flipped the car while attempting to qualify at the NHRA Grandnationals in Canada. He was OK. He ended up as the third alternate with a 6.98. That was Dick's only national event this year. Photo from 1979 US Nationals. Formerly listed 5.89/243.90 for this year, but that may have been a miscommunication of the 5.919/243.90 Summernationals DNQ from 1981. Removing those times until we can validate.

Notes: Dick was at Maple Grove at the end of June for the Super Stock Nationals. It was an eight-car show, and there were only eight cars, so qualifying wasn't a problem. His 8.14/103.92 got him the last spot in the field. An opening round 6.41/214.79 lost to Jerry O'Neil's 6.21/217. He was the fourth alternate at NHRA Englishtown at 5.919/243.90.
