Notes: Potvin-blown Olds was pictured racing Jack Moss's Chevy twin on the cover of 10/18/58 Drag News. - RT | The Tulsa Tribune (3/10/58) reported he was rushing to finish his new Olds dragster in time to enter it in the Mar. 16 drag racing season opener at Tulsa North Airport. On Apr. 27, he got top eliminator and set a new track record of 127.88 mph in 11.8 seconds at Red River Drag Strip in Wichita Falls, Texas. On May 11 at Red River Drag Strip, he set a new track record with a speed of 131 mph. At the Drag News Open race at Chandler, Arizona, he bested the Masters Dragliner for top time and speed in the A/D class with 11.19 at 132.40 mph. He set a new track record during time trials at Red River during the 2-day Dragster Holiday race with 10.11 at 146 mph. The next day, he turned 147.25 mph. At the NHRA Nationals at Oklahoma City, he turned 155.17 mph in 10.45 seconds during a practice run on Aug. 28. On Nov. 2 at Walker AFB in Roswell, New Mexico, he set a new NHRA national record with 160.14 mph in 10.08 seconds. He towed his dragster to Arizona for the Arizona and Western States Championships at the Chandler Associated Drag Strip race on Nov. 30. He broke an axle. Notes: Qualified on the bump at Maple Grove 9/85, but went to the semis, narrowly losing to runner-up Warren Johnson. | Tony qualified #10 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.71/178.99. This was his Pro Stock debut. He lost to Lee Shepherd's 7.60/180 in the first round, with a 7.74/178.92. A best of 7.81/177.23 failed to qualify at the Gatornationals and he missed the cut for the next race as well when his best of 7.84/176.49 failed to qualify at the Southern Nationals in Atlanta. He did make the show at the Cajun Nationals, running a 7.74 for the #10 spot. He lost to Warren Johnson in the first round. He got left out of the show again at Columbus for the Springnationals. Notes: Tony was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #7 with a 7.52/185.03 and a first-round 7.51/184.31 beat Gary Brown. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 7.59 in round two that lost to Don Coonce's 7.67. He also made the field at the NHRA Gatornationals where his 7.52/185.26 qualified #13. In the first round his 7.53/185.41 lost to Jerry Eckman's 7.49/185. He did not compete at the NHRA Winston All-Star race, but he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. There his 7.54/184.69 qualified #10. He improved to 7.49/185.10 in the first round, to beat Eckman's quicker 7.47/183. In round two his 7.57/184 advanced when Brown fouled. His run came to an end in the semifinals where Butch Leal's 7.51/185 stopped his 7.54/185.29. Baton Rouge was the next stop for the NHRA tour for the Cajun Nationals at State Capitol Dragway. Christian qualified in the dreaded #9 spot with a 7.60/184.46. This set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier, Bob Glidden. Tony gambled on the tree and lost. He shut off to 7.78 after seeing the red while Bob advanced with a 7.45. It was then off to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. A best of 7.65/183.48 failed to make the show and was the first alternate. He was in Canada at the end of June for the NHRA Grandnationals. Tony qualified #11 with a 7.636/183.78. He lasted until round two where his 7.64/183.69 lost to Kenny Delco's 7.57/183. Back in the US for the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown, a 7.54/184.35 qualified #8. He slowed to 7.61/183.07 in the first round, but it was still enough to beat Lee Dean's 7.66/182. He had a close race against Bruce Allen in the "Reher and Morrison" Camaro in round two. It didn't end in his favor as his 7.62/183.07 lost to Allen's 7.61/182. He failed to qualify at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals where he was the third alternate with an 8.10/171.88.

Notes: Tony started the season by qualifying at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He passed a fouling Jerry Haas in the first round, with a 7.34/188.60, and in round two, another 7.34 at 189.31 beat Gordie Rivera's close 7.35/188. In the semifinals, he fell off to 7.43 that lost to eventual winner Darrell Alderman's 7.28. At the second NHRA race of the season, the Arizona Nationals, Christian, again made it into the semifinals. He qualified #12, and in the first round, both he and Scott Geoffrion had run 7.35 (Tony at 186.08), but the Beretta got the win. His 7.37/186.10 beat Don Beverley in the second round, but another 7.35/185.98 in the semifinals lost to Warren Johnson's 7.31/189.
