Notes: Fred Rowsey bought the Banzai car (and name I assume)from Eddie Bauman in 66 . He and George Cox ran it for a while before Fred bought a new never run Woody chassis from Grantham in Arizona whose first name escapes me. Anyway Fred called it Banzai II for 67 , bought a couple complete KB’s and hired John Wilson to tune and run the car. Which is about the time I got hired by John at GCP the fuel company Fred bought from Neil who owned the Texas Shark car. Later that summer Fred and John had a disagreement and Split ways, putting George Cox back in the seat and as the tuner. Bob Gibson

Notes: Won Division 4 in 1967. Front engine dragster. |George was at Austin, Texas, for a Texas Pro Fuel Circuit race on May 18. While he didn't win, he did set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a track record 7.17. He was at Amarillo on June 23 for a Pro-Fuel Circuit race. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 7.39 and, in round one, beat John Wilson. In the semifinals, he lost to Larry Brown driving the "Chaos Kids" car. In July, he was at Amarillo for the Texas Championships. His 7.59/213.28 qualified #6 in the eight-car show. A 7.71/215.30 in the first round, took out Paul Pritchett's 7.93 and, in the semifinals, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 7.20/217.36. Unfortunately, he was late off the line, and he lost to eventual winner Jimmy Nix's 7.53. He won the fourth NHRA Division 4 race at Tulsa on July 28.

Notes: At the NHRA Springnationals, a 6.89/217.91 qualified #15. He ran a 10.50 in the first round, getting past a fouling Stan Shiroma. A 7.15/161 advanced again when John Wiebe fouled against him in round two, but in the third round a 7.14/202.24 couldn't get around Kelly Brown's Ford at 6.86/215. He ran well again at the Division 5 points race at Opelousas, Louisiana. A first-round 7.08 beat Phil Butler and in the semifinal, Chip Woodall fouled giving him a free ride into the final. In the final, it was George's turn to foul, he ran a 6.94, but still lost to Gary Bailey's 9.22. On July 20 he was back at Dallas for the Division 4 race. He qualified #1 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.90 and made it all the way to the semifinals where Bennie Osborn's 6.89 beat his 6.95/214.28. Ran 6.892 at Dallas International Motor Speedway 1969.
