Stan smoked the tires and Jerry took the victory with a 6.68/207.85. On April 12 he was at Fremont for the NHRA Division 6 Opener. Darien qualified #1 with a 6.55/213.27, and he went to the finals by beating Jack Cambra's 6.72/203 with a 6.63/210.77 and in the semifinals, his 6.60/211.76 took out Gary Southern's 6.84/201. In the final he faced Hage. Jerry ran another 6.60/211.76, but it wasn't enough to beat Dave's 6.50/208. Another win came on May 9 at OCIR for the NHRA Western Regional. He qualified #5 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.87/207.37. He improved to 6.80/208.33 (Top Speed) in the first round, over Jesse Rodriguez and in round two his 6.97/200.44 advanced when Hage fouled. In the semifinals, he picked up even more to 6.72/207.85 while beating Bob Lunsford. This put him in the final with Vic Phillips. Jerry made his slowest pass of the day, a 6.99/206.89, but it was still enough to win over Phillips' 7.29/176. |
