Notes: Kenny failed to make the field at the first two NHRA races of '86, but he did qualify at the Southern Nationals in Atlanta. His 7.68/183.29 was good for the "bump" spot. He lost to Jerry Eckman in the first round. A 7.66/180.07 qualified #13 at Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals. His 7.76/178.11 lost to Bruce Allen's 7.65/180 in the first round. At the Springnationals, he qualified #11 with a 7.65/179.82. A first-round 7.80/174.31 lost to Joe Lepone's 7.70/180. He ran at the Super Stock Nationals. It was an eight-car show, and he qualified #4 with a 7.64/180.00. He beat Lee Dean in the first round before losing to Lepone's 7.66/181 in the semifinal with a 7.76/177.51. After qualifying well at the last few events, he was disappointed at the Grandnationals when he only ran a best of 7.86/177.23 that failed to qualify (sixth alternate). He ran much better at Englishtown for the Summernationals, but his 7.610/179.85 (sixth alternate) still failed to make the field. That was his best ET of the year and a fourth alternate 7.625/184.34 at Indy was his best speed.

Notes: Ken started the '87 NHRA season by qualifying #10 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.53/184.69. He lost to Warren Johnson in the first round. At the Gatornationals, a 7.53/184.53 qualified #15, but again he lost in the first round, this time to Darrell Alderman. He attempted to make the field at Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, but his best of 7.59/182.03 was good for the third alternate. The next event was the Cajun Nationals at Baton Rouge. Delco qualified #14 with a 7.65/182.01, and in the first round, he beat Lee Dean. He had problems in round two and shut off against Bruce Allen. That was the last race of the Camaro before Kenny went to the Trans Am for Columbus. If anyone knows the best ET/mph for Kenny in this Camaro for 1987, please let us know. - Rob McCabe

He drove the Flip Bonito car, too, going a best of 7.27 at 189. | Delco had the only Grand Prix in the show at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #8 with a 7.35/188.44. In the opening round, he improved to 7.33/188.44 in stopping Larry Morgan's 7.47/186. But in round two, eventual winner Jerry Eckman's 7.35/188 put his 7.37/188.20 on the trailer. He also qualified #8 at the NHRA Arizona Nationals with a 7.33/188.40. A first-round 7.50/186.02 beat Jerry Haas' late 7.40/187, but his 7.43/185.29 in round two lost to this race's eventual winner Bob Glidden at 7.35/186. He continued to run well at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals. A 7.27/187.89 qualified #6 and in round one, his 7.29/188.67 advanced when Scott Geoffrion fouled. He got some payback on Glidden in round two where his 7.28/188.91 beat Bob's 7.30/189. But once again, it was the eventual winner of the race that stopped him. In the semifinals, Warren Johnson's 7.24/189 beat his 7.32/188.16. At all these races he had the only Grand Prix in the show. At the NHRA Gatornationals, car owner Paul Rebeschi tried to qualify a second car. He failed to qualify, but Delco went on to win. He had ran 7.34/187.73 to qualify #7. He improved to 7.28/188.95 in round one, to beat Jim Yates and a second round 7.30/188.99 beat Johnson. Geoffrion fouled against him in the semifinals and Kenny advanced with a 7.40/189.19. He faced another first time NHRA Pro Stock finalist, Rickie Smith. The two had a good race, but Delco's 7.28/189.71 beat Rickie's 7.36/187 for the victory. He did not race at the NHA Winston Invitational at Rockingham, but he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He qualified #6 with a 7.28/188.87 and in round one, his 7.39/186.33 beat Reid Whisnant's 7.49/183. But in the second round, Johnson’s 7.33/188 beat his 7.43/186.76. We need validation of where Kenny drove for Rebeschi and where he drove for Bonito.

Notes: Delco showed up at Richmond early in June for the NHRA Virginia Nationals. It was the first NHRA race he competed at since the '94 Keystone Nationals. His lack of competition showed as his 7.27/191.04 best was only good enough for the ninth alternate. He also attempted to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals a week later, but he was the tenth alternate at 7.36/187.26.
