Notes: Ed Dixon was a strong runner in the IHRA competition in '87. In March, at the IHRA Winternationals, he qualified #7 at 7.40/189 and made it into the second round before his 7.44/187 lost to the race's eventual winner Rickie Smith, who beat him with a 7.26/190. He attended the IHRA Pro-Am Championships in Rockingham, where his 7.48/186.33 mph qualified him #5. An opening round 7.52/185.95 beat alternate Jim Ehlen, but he lost to Bob Olson in the second round. At the IHRA Springnationals, a 7.55 qualified him #13, but he suffered a first-round loss. Bob Glidden got Ed in the second round at the IHRA Summernationals. At the IHRA Northern Nationals, he qualified #12 with a 7.47/189.47 but lost in the first round, despite his hard-charging 190.67 mph blast. Dixon dropped a second-round match to Carlton Phillips at the IHRA World Nationals. Ed finished the season seventh in the IHRA Pro Stock standings. The 7.37/192.30 times from the Drag Racing List, Spring 87/88, Vol. 2, No. 9. Also 7.389/189 at Rockingham Fall 9/87.

Notes: Beautiful car. Paul Sorrell body. Owner and part driver, Greenamyer was an SR71 test pilot and air plane racer, whose P-51 was sponsored by Smirnoff. Zeuschel built the engines. His encounter may have lead to his ultimate abandonment of V8 motors and interest in Allisons. In any event, Dixon first drove, then Greenamyer eventually settled in. The car won a few races. Greenamyer still owns the car as it sits in a warehouse somewhere.

Notes: 23 T Body. This car was the last in the Fire Side Inn cars series; it was, in essence, a state-of-the-art top fueler with a shell, unlike its fellow modified roadsters, which had become a haven for outdated top fuelers equipped with comp roadster-style bodies. Fire Side Inn was, in fact, an upscale steak house located out in the valley of Los Angeles. It was the haunt of many TV and movie stars. Today, the National Enquirer was lurking outside its doors looking for gossip. Its owner (whose name escapes me at the moment) initially sponsored a series of exotic sports cars designed to run the dry lakes, all under the restaurant's name. | Also 7.28/212.76 at OCIR on 2/11/68. Dixon was driving the "Fireside Inn" at Lions on April 13 for an eight-car show. He qualified #5 with a 7.10, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.15/212.26 beat low qualifier, James Warren. Notes: Also ran 6.91 at Bakersfield March Meet 3/69. Confirmed 222.77 at NHRA Indianapolis 69. Ran 7.12 at Riverside Hot Rod Magazine Championship. | At Irwindale on January 12, sixteen-cars tried to make an eight-car show. Larry ran a 7.54/200.88 to qualify sixth. He beat Jim Nicoll's 7.44/206 in the first round, with a 7.40/207.36. In the semifinal, a non-firing Glen Woolsey advanced when Larry fouled against him. A 6.81 Pomona track record at 214.79 qualified #1 at the NHRA Winternationals. A first-round 7.14/210.77 lost to Ron Rivero's 7.07. He then went to OCIR for the second All-Pro event. 35 cars showed up to qualify for the eight spots and Larry's 7.03/211.26 came in fourth best. A much better 6.85 in the first round, beat Tom McEwen's 7.25. In the semifinal, he beat Dave Beebe. For all the marbles, a 7.24/220.04 beat Steve Carbone's 7.52/216 in the final. He beat Beebe again, this time in the first round, at the March Meet in Bakersfield. A 6.94/221.75 beat Dave who shut off early. In round two, a 7.05/222.77 beat Jerry Ruth's 7.25/217. Jim Nicoll smoked his tires against him in the third round (32-car field), but a 6.87 by Jim Dunn in the semis put him on the trailer. He didn't qualify that well at Riverside for the HRM Championships on March 16 when a 7.12 qualified #22. He improved to a 6.87/217.39 to get past Gerry Glenn in the first round, and a second round 6.99/202.24 beat Jack McCloud. Jeep Hampshire's 7.05/216 lost to Larry's 7.00/218.44 in round three. A holeshot 7.08/217.00 beat Don Garlits' quicker 7.02/221 in the semifinal. He again beat Carbone in the final for another big win with a 7.23/205.94. He lost in the first round, at the final OCIR All-Pro race on March 29. He qualified with a 7.02/210.76, but his first-round 7.15/203.60 lost to Carbone's 6.95/218. He had some trouble at Lions for an eight-car show on April 12. While attempting to qualify, the car got airborne and when it landed, it bent the front of the dragster up pretty bad. He was back at Lions a week later (April 19) for another eight-car show. This time his 6.86 qualified #6. Unfortunately, he had more problems and was unable to run in eliminations. On April 26 he set Low ET at an eight-car show at OCIR. Unfortunately, it came with a loss as he fouled it away in the first round, against Glenn. The "first-round blues" continued at Irwindale on May 3 for an eight-car show and in round one, he smoked the tires the whole track and lost to Ron Manke. He got things going again at Lions on May 10 when he won an eight-car show. He advanced past round one with a 6.83/216 and he soloed in the semifinals when Glenn was shut off on the line. In the final, a 6.84/217.39 got the victory over Manke's 6.90/226. He almost won again on May 24 at the NHRA Division 7 race at Irwindale. He was a bit lucky as well. He advanced past the first-round with a 7.10 and in round two, Glenn lost fire and he soloed. In the semifinals, Abbott and Lee fouled and Larry went on to the finals against James Warren. In the final, Dixon lost an engine and Warren took the win. He lost to Jim Dunn in the first round, at the NHRA Springnationals after qualifying #19 in the 32-car field with a 6.91/215.82.

Notes: Ran 6.60 at Ontario. Larry was at the first OCIR All-Pro race of '71. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.74. In the first round his 6.82/214.79 beat low qualifier Rick Ramsey's quicker 6.75/219. In the semifinals, his 6.83/211.26 beat Don Moody and advanced him into the final against John Wiebe. Dixon took a chance on the tree and fouled giving Wiebe the win at 6.88/219. He went to the second All-Pro race, but was unable to qualify. He also failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. The skid continued at the third All-Pro race where he was again a non-qualifier. But then he went to Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet and qualified on the pole for the 32-car field with a 6.64. He lasted until the third round before losing to Rick Ramsey. He was at Fresno for a sixteen-car show on March 21. An opening round 6.91/212.76 beat Dave Uyehara, and he beat John Shoemaker in round two before blowing an engine in the semifinals and losing to eventual winner Dennis Baca. The following week (March 27), he was back at OCIR for the final All-Pro event. The race was a sixteen-car show. Unfortunately, he lost to Tony Nancy in the first round. Things went even worse at Lions on April 5 for an eight-car show. Larry qualified #6 with a 6.66, but on another run trying to better his time, the car got out of shape and rolled. He ended up with some burns and a broken finger. Dixon did not run for a while after that.
