Notes: This was the ill-fated back-flip truck. - Danny White | Thoroughly cobbled-up vehicle with lopped-off rear and damaged nose; upside-down "rocking horse" type parallel "roll" cage extended front to rear and allowed truck to roll on its back like a beetle. Act reportedly displeased some strip owners due to damage cage caused to track. - RT |

Notes: Owner killed mid-April 1977 while testing engine in a gravel pit in Pewaukee, Wis. (a Milwaukee suburb). Anderson, normally the driver, was present. Owner Hehn was in the cockpit as they tried to sort out some problems with the propulsion unit. The "throttle" apparently stuck and the car hurtled into a wall of gravel at an estimated 140 mph, killing Hehn. The car was subsequently sold to funny car driver-turned-rocketman Fred Goeske. - RT |

Notes: Coverage of Labor Day 1960 AHRA Championship includes picture and caption of this Franklin-powered slingshot. Flat six, opposed-cylinder helicopter mill normally ran with shaft in vertical orientation; reconfigured to horizontal by owner/driver. (This was similar to the engine used in the Tucker automobile.) Stock engine specs of 245 hp developed at 3,200 takeoff rpm; mill reportedly would not rev high enough to threaten Chryslers. Picture in 3/61 Speed Mechanics. - RT |

Notes: Identified in pre-event promotions for the first Jet, Turbine and Rocket Car Invitationals (1967) at Union Grove, Wis. Unclear whether Knuth drove at this point; he would hire drivers in the '70s-'90s. - RT |
