Notes: Hunter's unique dragster debuted at Colton on August 3, capturing top eliminator with a speed of 133 mph. At Lions Drag Strip on August 5, he turned 134.35 mph. After pulling up to the starting line, the rear slicks are lifted off the ground by a lever and two oversize casters. He then winds up the engine with the rear wheels spinning, flicking the lever to drop the car when the starter drops the flag. On a run on Aug. 26 at Santa Ana, he drifted to the left as he neared the timing traps. He hit the timing lights while traveling about 130 mph, causing him to flip several times and crash. He had to be cut from the totally demolished car. He suffered a dislocated shoulder, two broken bones in his right hand, and a possible concussion.
