Notes: First funny car for Al Bergler. Began as a partnership with Pete Seaton with Tom Prock as the driver. After a couple of early '71 races on the west coast, Bergler bought out Seaton and ran the car with Prock as the driver. Tom qualified #9 at Pomona with a 7.194/206.42. He crossed the centerline against Jake Johnston in round one. Johnston was broke but got the win nonetheless. Tom qualified #11 at Gainesville with a 7.30/209. In round one, he lost to Gene Snow, 6.89/214 to 7.02/211.26. In April, the team was at Aquasco for an eight-car show. Tom set a 6.80 track record at 194.38 in the first round to beat Malcolm Durham. His 7.30/200.88 beat Pete Williams' 7.36/195 in "Jungle Jim's" second car in the semifinals. Unfortunately, the car caught fire at the top end of the track. Prock eventually got the car stopped and was able to get out, but the car was completely destroyed. Prock got away with a slight burn on his neck and a bruised hand. Otherwise, he was OK. The car was rebuilt, and Prock was at Indianapolis early in May for the NHRA Division Three race. He runner-upped to Roger Lindamood. Shortly after that (May 23), he was at Green Valley for the AHRA Grand American race. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the first round, he was late, and his 7.16/201.78 lost to Art Ward's 7.31/202. In the first week of June, the team was at Baton Rouge for the AHRA Southern Nationals. Unfortunately, Prock lost to Leonard Hughes in the opening round. Tom was the seventh alternate at Indy in the team's last event with a 7.06/208.33. In '72, Prock left for the Custom Body ride, and Butch Maas drove for Al in the renamed Motown Shaker.
