Notes: Ron was driving this car on April 25 at Gary, Indiana, for the Mr. Chevrolet USA race. Six cars ran, and all made two passes. In Ron's first race, his 7.70/204 beat an ailing Dick Harrell at 8.18. Then the US 30 clocks started to play games. In the second race, his 7.52 lost to Randy Walls' 7.42. But he got a speed reading of 218, which tied Roger Lindamood's track record. Those speeds were both likely bogus. But O'Donnell came back out for a consolation race and ran an even more unbelievable 7.63/224.36 to beat Harrell. The track claimed that it was a new world speed record for FCs. Unfortunately, the time was obviously not accurate. On May 9, he was at Martin, Michigan, for the Chevy Funny Car Championships. In the first round, he got out of shape and shut off to 8.76/154.90, which lost to Terry Hedrick's 7.68/196. He came back out later for a consolation race where his 7.90/182.00 beat a non-firing Clare Sanders in the "Super Camaro." Ron ran 7.81 at Rockingham, NC. |
