Notes: At the NHRA WWCS in Cayuga Ontario, Smith ran 9.62/140.84 to defeat Dave Catari in the quarterfinals, 9.62/140.62 to defeat Al DeAngelis in the semis & 9.63/139.96 over Larry Kopp to win the event. At the NHRA Sportsnationals in Bowling Green Kentucky, Smith defeated Bob Tilton in Round 2 & Garley Daniels in Round 3 & would face #8 qualifier Richie Rosen in Round 4 where Smith red lighted against the eventual champion. At the Budweiser Springnationals, Smith qualified #16 with a 9.66 (0.340 Under) but lost in Round 1 to #40 Qualifier Mark Harmon. At the Molson GrandNational, Smith qualified #13 with a 9.635 (0.365 Under) but lost in round 1 to #1 Qualifier & Eventual Runner Up John Lingenfelter. At the NHRA Budweiser Summernationals, Smith defeated Ralph Barbary in round 2, but red lighted in round 3 against #5 qualifier Gary Johns. |
