Notes: This quarter-mile run at Fremont - at 6.99 claimed to be the first six-second time ever cut - was Leasher's first time in the car, per article in May 5/1962, issue of Drag News. (Speed on this record run was 207.36 mph.) "Just wait until we get to Bonneville," was a phrase heard frequently in the ecstatic Palamides pits, according to the article's author. Four months later, Leasher was killed in a spectacular accident at Bonneville while piloting another Palamides racecar, the Infinity LSR machine. - RT |
