Notes: Bernstein was the second driver in this car. Bernstein was at Rockingham on May 6 for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. His 6.79 qualified #6 in the sixteen-car field, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.10/142.40 beat Dee Simmons. In round two, Kenny got crossed up and shut down against eventual winner Mike Snively. Kenny was at Muncie for the IHRA Northern Nationals in May. He qualified #12 with a 7.73 (easy show to get in), but he lost to eventual winner Jim Paoli in the first round. Early in July, Baton Rouge held its Louisiana State Summer Championships. Four Funny Cars ran, including Bernstein. He had lost to George Cox's "Banzai" but got back into the show as the Low ET loser. It was the "Banzai" car that Ken had to race in the final. The Charger failed to fire, so Bernstein would make an all-out solo for the win. The car left hard, but at the 1/8 mile, the "LA Hooker" exploded into flames. Bernstein got the Mustang stopped and had second-degree burns on his hands. The "Hooker" was totally destroyed. |
