Notes: Phil, while filling in for regular driver Tom Prock, was the low qualifier at the 1972 NHRA Summernationals with a 6.508/222.77. He lost to Ron Potter (Golden Nugget Mustang) in the first round, after he lost the coin flip for lane choice and was forced to take the bad lane. Went 6.550/221.13 at Indy 9/72. Suffered complete body destruction after blower explosion on a winning 6.60/187.11 first-round pass at Indy 9/72. Came back and ran 6.88 to qualify #5 at the World Finals, but lost round one to Gordie Bonin. |
