Notes: Got an aluminum block in 1975. This Yellow Wildcat was a brand-new body for Indy. The old one was wrecked with Larry driving after a big wheel stand at SIR less than a month before. At the NHRA national event in Indy, Dale qualified #14 (6.371/212.76), beat Paul Smith in Rd. 1 (6.340/211.26 to 6.401/210.28), and then lost to Prudhomme in Rd. 2 (6.219/209.30 to a losing 6.943/157.61). Picture attached. All cars in the left lane of the 2nd round lost. Dale was the quickest of those who ran the left lane. 36 cars tried to make the field at Indy that year. At IHRA Nationals at Dragway 42 that year (qualified #5 – 6.746/168.85), beating Norm Wilcox in the Hawaiian in Rd. 1 (6.54/223.88 to a losing 6.68/214.79), but he was not able to return for Rd. 2. He also drove it at the IHRA U.S. Open Nationals in Rockingham, where he qualified 11th (7.116/190.67), beat Bob Pickett in Mickey Thompson’s car (6.73/187.00), then beat Frank Oglesby (9.60/97.00 to a losing 11.88 with no speed), beat Gene Snow in Rd. 3 (7.87/120.00 as Snow crossed the center line and was dq’d) and then Dale lost to Charles Lee in the Hartsoe Brothers car (7.27/198.00 to a losing 7.77/151.00). At that event, the track was a “little slick,” and the Hartsoe Brothers went down the track 4 times and beat all of the high-powered cars that smoked the tires or had other problems. In September Dale drove the car at the IHRA All American Nationals in Bristol where he qualified #12 (6.745/198.23) and then beat Bob Pickett in Mickey Thompson’s car (7.35/155.17 to a losing 7.63/207.37), beat Kenny Safford in the Mr. Norm’s car (6.56/212.76 to an identical 6.56/212.76) and then lost to Gene Snow in the semi-finals (6.40/226.70 to a losing 6.44/222.77).
