  | Notes: The sad saga of Wayne King's brief AA/FC career. He got a total of 4 runs on his brand-new Dodge Charger AA/FC at Irwindale. On the fourth and final pass his chutes didn't open and he drove into the rocks at the end of Irwindale's track. The car stayed upright but the rocks tore up the body and bent the chassis, thus totaling the AA/FC. Wayne towed home, cut up the chassis for scrap, junked the destroyed body. He put the engine into a new rear engine chassis and went back to top fuel dragster racing in 1973. Note by Steve Reyes. - JM |
